ChapterThree

Alice POV: We held hands together as we stared at the half-silvered ball, casting a silvery glow across us on the rooftop. The warmth of his palm made mine a bit warm. "Alice, do you think everything will go well tomorrow?" I swiped my head towards him, a smile plastered across my lips, my eyes glistening. "It will, they are my friends, never have they let me down. I don't think it will happen tomorrow." He withdrew his hands and got to his feet. Looking down at me in silence, the wind's voice was blistering as it danced vaguely. He looked away, his gaze on the sky, "Alice, this is different. Our parents and their parents were at war. The same war that led to the death of their parents, and ours." He returned his gaze towards me, "Don't you think they would have some kind of ulterior motive?" I shook my head, "I know you never got along with Trey and Alex. You felt they were going to steal your twin sister from you." "Didn't they?" He huffed as he sat down. "Come on, Max, they are both nice and cool people.” "That was before their parents died in a war our parents were involved in. The stakes are different and higher; besides, they are now in the position of leadership.” "So are we," I got on my feet and sat on the rail, facing him. I took his hands, gazing into his emerald eyes, which used to be filled with so much spark. After the death of our parent, he lost the spark, and his beautiful smile, "Max, if Trey chooses to f**k up, I am sure Alex wouldn't." He chuckled, yanking his hands away from mine, he got on his feet, gazing at me, "You don't think so because he loves you, right?" He shook his head, his right palm on his forehead, "No, that's not it, it's because he's going to choose you as his mate tomorrow, and you believe he wouldn't want to throw away the opportunity of having us as his ally, right?" I exhaled and got on my feet also. Took a step closer, I could feel his breath on my nose. My gaze met his eyes, my voice firm and low, "I know Alex, and I know Trey, they are honest, if they weren't cool with the idea they wouldn't have agreed...." He threw his hands in the air, interrupting me, "Oh my god Alice, you are too naive and over-trusting for my liking. You shouldn't trust anyone who doesn't have your blood running in them. Don't you think agreeing to this peace treaty is an avenue for them to exploit how fragile and easy you trust? Their sudden agreement doesn't alert you that this might be fishy? Think Alice, think, you are not a fool." "It's enough, Max, you don't have to hurl insults at me," my voice was, sharp and firm. "Fine, suit yourself, but when all this blows up in your face, don't say I didn't warn you," he grabbed his glass, and the book he was reading, "Goodnight." "Leaving without a kiss or hug, huh?" He paused, and slowly turned back. I watched as his shoulders fell, "Fine," he huffed, and walked towards me, and kissed me on my head, murmuring inaudible words. I hugged him, and pecked his forehead, "Goodnight." He exited the rooftop, and I collapsed on the chair, thinking about what he just said, as I stared at the moon. "Moon goddess, please guide me. I don't want to make any mistake that will put my life, and that of this pack at stake. Don't let me truncate the sacrifices of my parents," I exhaled, and reached for my phone. I scrolled through my contacts and dialed my soulmate. It rang, but no answer. I dialed again, no answer. I got on my feet, and I dialed his line again, yet no reply. I tried the third time, his voice came alive after the first ring, "Seems like someone won't sleep without hearing my voice." My lips curled, my eyes glittered as I sat down, "Was that why you made me call you thrice?" "I am sorry my love, I was busy." "Busy? Seems like you have got something special, and more important than me," I rolled my eyes. He chuckled softly, and I smiled, "You know I can't replace you, not even in my next life." "I don't believe you," I ran my fingers through my hair, my teeth exposed. "Then I guess we do have to wait till tomorrow night. I am sure you have been daydreaming about how loud my name will sound on your lips when I thrust from behind, s******g your ass carelessly, devouring your n*****s like it was made for mine." "Stop it Alex, my pants are wet," I whispered. "Then imagine how hard you are going to squirt when I am done licking your plate.....damn, f**k!" I held on to the walls of my stomach laughing. "I am sorry I have to go," he muttered with a low tone, the laughter seized. I moved to the edge of my chair, "You sound bothered, is something wrong?" He let out a loud sigh. I got on my feet immediately, my heart suddenly increased, hoping whatever he was about to say wouldn't concern what should happen tomorrow. "Alice, do you trust me?" My body shook as the chilled wind engulfed me, his words echoed deep into my soul. I gulped hard, remembering the words of Max. I opened my mouth, my lips quaked, and not a single word came out. "Will you ever forgive me, if I hurt you?" My stomach became hard, my chest rose, and fell at the end of his word. My lips quaked at the thought of being hurt by the person I love most. It's definitely going to break me, "Is there something I should know?" I heard him exhale, silence became loud, my left toe constantly drumming on the ground, "Alice.... I am.... Sorry....”
