Chapter 7 Resolve for Revenge

830 Words
Yolanda's face turned an alarming shade as she averted her eyes, refusing to answer Cynthia. After a tense moment, Yolanda suddenly burst into tears, pointing at Cynthia and shouting, "You ungrateful wretch! We raised you, and this is how you repay us?! If I had known, I would have..." "Would have what?" Cynthia snapped, her mind racing through memories, realizing she had never truly been considered family, just a convenient sacrifice! Yolanda fell silent, caught off guard by the icy hatred in Cynthia's eyes. Rebecca was equally stunned by the revelation. She always knew their parents didn't like Cynthia, but she never knew it was because Cynthia wasn't really their family. Yet that was not important at that moment. She cowered behind Yolanda and Thomas, clinging to them like a lifeline. Her fear of having to donate her liver overshadowed everything. Yolanda, trying to regain control, saw Cynthia stride forward and grab Rebecca. Cynthia's eyes blazed with fury. "Whether I'm your family or not, Grandpa is! You won't even save him? What a beast! You're donating your liver, whether you like it or not!" Thomas, ashamed, slunk to the side. "No! Mom, help me!" Rebecca wailed, struggling in vain against Cynthia's grip. Yolanda rushed forward but was pushed back by Cynthia, who then dragged a screaming Rebecca towards the doctor. "Mom! Cynthia, let me go! Andrew, help me!" Rebecca cried out in desperation. Suddenly, a strong hand gripped Cynthia's arm, stopping her. It was Andrew. Cynthia paused for a moment and then glared at him. "Let go! This is our family matter. Stay out of it!" Rebecca clung to Andrew's clothes, sobbing. "Stewart Group has access to a liver donor database. I've already instructed them to find a match and contact the hospital. You don't have to force her to donate," Andrew said firmly. Cynthia froze, her eyes widening. Of course. She had forgotten about Stewart Group's resources. With their capabilities, finding a liver donor shouldn't be an issue. Andrew had stood by, watching her struggle, only stepping in when Rebecca was at risk. No matter what Rebecca did, Andrew would always protect her. A wave of despair washed over Cynthia. In her past life, she had worked so hard and sacrificed so much, yet meant nothing to Andrew. He had even killed their child... How heartless! Andrew's indifference towards her was as strong as his love for Rebecca. Cynthia's grip slackened, and Rebecca quickly buried herself in Andrew's arms, clinging to him tightly. Seeing this, Cynthia let out a cold laugh and, as if exhausted, slowly walked to a chair and sat down. Andrew moved his lips, wanting to say something, but nothing came out. Cynthia's figure, thin and lonely, stirred a sudden feeling of guilt and pity in him. He felt an impulse to go and hug her, a feeling he had never even had for Rebecca. Andrew frowned, gently but firmly pulling Rebecca, who was clinging tightly to him, away. "Andrew?" Rebecca noticed his actions and refused to let go, but he firmly handed her over to Yolanda and Thomas. The three of them continued to comfort each other. Andrew pretended to make a phone call nearby, but his body was always turned towards Cynthia. Thanks to Andrew's instructions, someone from Stewart Group soon arrived with a matching liver. The hospital expedited the surgery. By the time the surgery was over, it was already late at night. The procedure was successful. Cynthia glanced at the sleeping Jerold, finally feeling a sense of relief. Looking around at the people who ignored her, Cynthia took a step to leave but was blocked by someone. "Are you leaving? Where are you staying now? It's late. Let me take you home." Cynthia was dazed for a moment, realizing it was Andrew speaking to her. She no longer wanted to deal with them and responded coldly, "No need. Stay away from me." Exhausted, she walked out of the hospital and hailed a taxi from the roadside. All the way home, she thought about the absurd events of the day. She had once tried so hard to please everyone in the Johnson family, especially Yolanda and Thomas, hoping for even a sliver of their love, but it was all in vain. She only received undeserved beatings and scoldings! Today, she finally understood why. In her previous life, she had died without knowing the truth! All the talk about taking care of Rebecca and being filial was bullshit. They had only used her as a tool, discarding her when she was no longer needed! Since her rebirth, even while planning revenge against Rebecca, she had still tried to consider the Johnson family, tormented by the thought of hurting her biological sister. But now that she knew they weren't her real family, she wouldn't hold back anymore! They owed her, and she would make sure they paid back! Cynthia dialed Gloria's number and bitterly laughed. "I finally know why my family treated me so unfairly!"
