Chapter 2

1654 Words
AARON “Uhmmm.” Lindsay moaned silently as I sucked on her neck. I closed my eyes as I felt the euphoric feeling rush down my veins as I sucked into her neck. I almost got carried away. Almost lost control again. I could not let it happen. I needed to let her go. She was not a plaything. She was my f*****g secretary that I was going to need a few hours later. I needed to let her go… now. Lindsay dropped to the ground as I let her go. She placed her hand on the side of her neck as she heaved, staring up at me. I had told her to come to see me a few hours ago. I had told her that it was a work emergency, and she hurried here. Now I needed to cover my tracks. I needed to delete the message from her phone and go through the whole process of compelling anyone else she had told before she came here. I was craving her blood. I had hired her two months ago after I let go of my previous secretary because she started to have gaps in her memory. I could not have that kind of issue again. Some time ago, it had almost slipped that my brother and I were vampires. I had to hunt down every single one of them that knew and compel them. Some, I’d even have to kill, if I didn’t trust if they were on vervain or not. I did not want any loose ends, which Nathan likes to make. One day he was going to land us in trouble that I wouldn’t be able to clean up on time. “Sir, are we done?” She asked. “Yes. Come on now,” I headed to my fridge. I brought out a bottle of my own blood and fed it to her and soon, the nasty mark had healed from her neck. I placed my fingers in her hair and raised her head to look straight in her eyes. “This did not happen. You did not spend the night here. You are going to go back home, tell whoever you told that you left to come and see me that you went to meet some man somewhere and you had a great night. You’ll come to work at the normal hours.” “Okay.” She was like a robot now. She stood up and headed to her bag, picked it up, and then strolled out of the room quietly. I wasn’t going to invite her back here no matter how hungry I was. She wasn’t a play thing, I reminded myself again. I sighed as I fell back on my bed. I had to go to work early because I had a few meetings that I had over-rescheduled because I was cleaning up Nathan’s messes. If he at least had his own separate face, then I won’t give a damn but it was hard when I shared the exact same face, voice, and height with him. We were too identical, and he was too irresponsible. Sometimes, I have a feeling that he forgets that he is a hybrid in the human world. We were not the same, no matter how normal we looked. We transformed into beasts several times a month, and we drank blood. We were hybrids. Half lycan, and half vampires. A knock came on my door, interrupting my train of thought. “Sir?” One of the compelled maids knocked on the door. It was cruel, compelling the maids and bodyguards in the house, but I could not risk them ratting off about the blood they washed off our carpets to other people. I mostly never feeded on them unless I was really hungry and was out of blood bags. “Come in,” I told her. She sauntered in, “Mr. Hawthorne says you should come for breakfast. You are to meet his new wife.” “Okay, thank you.” My father had gotten married to a woman he had just met a few weeks ago. Normally, I would be against that, but he looked happy. Ever since his last wife died, he hasn’t had an interest in any other woman. If this was going to make him happy then I was going to support it. I just had to try to keep my claws off her because he would kill me if he found out that I was feeding on his wife. He had already hated the fact that his sons were half vampires. I looked down at my crisp new shirt and sighed when I saw a splash of blood on it. I removed it and cleaned away any trace of it on my body before I wore a clean new shirt. I sprayed my perfume and checked my laptop for a bit, to see if some important emails had come through before I headed downstairs. Nathan usually never came back home, so it was mostly my father and I. I was glad that at least I was going to have an addition to the family. I hadn’t met my wife yet because I had to miss the wedding, but I was happy to meet her today. I headed to their wing of the house, and my father and new stepmother were just coming into the sitting room too. “Good morning, Mrs. Hawthorne .” I rushed to her, flashing her a charming smile as I kissed her hands. I pushed the thought of how her blood must taste to the back of my head as soon as it appeared. She looked just a few years younger than my father. He was pretty young too, because he had Nathan and me when he was still a teenager. “Good morning,” she smiled. “Is it Nathan or Aaron?” She asked me. “Aaron.” I replied as I headed to my side of the table to sit down. “Oh, it is nice meeting you. I missed you at the wedding.” “I had a really important thing to do. I am so sorry I missed it. I will make it up to you by being a dutiful step son.” I smiled at her. She glanced at my father and I could see the look of approval she gave him. I had this thing with people. They always liked me. Sometimes, I did not even need to compel them to do things for me. I just had to use my words the way I thought they would like them, and they will comply. “So, Aaron. How are things at work?” My father asked me. He had handed over the family business to me a few years back, when he decided to chase his long-term hobby that he barely had time to indulge in. Golf. He had started to make money out of it. Typical of him. He always told me not to waste my time on something if it was not going to bring me profit. “It is great.” I quipped. “Where do you work, Aaron?” Julia asked me. “The family company. My father handed it to me not long ago.” I glanced at my father. He was looking at me with a proud smile, something Nathan doesn’t get so much from our father. He was the rebel of the family. The both of us had given up on his redemption for years now. “He is very hard working. Our sales skyrocketed. I still want to know what you are doing that I could have done to get all of this profit.” “It is simply luck, father.” I replied, but it was anything but that. I put my blood, sweat, and tears in it. But this was my first meal with my new stepmother. I would hate it if all we discussed was work. “So, Julia. Do you have any kids?” I asked, changing the subject. “Yes, only one,” she replied. “Actually, I even hear her coming.” Julia turned back, and a breathtaking girl came into the room. I could barely take my eyes off her as I studied her short blonde hair with pink highlights, her soft feminine features, and her long beautiful legs. She was wearing shorts and a shirt, and that stirred something in me so deeply that I could barely take my eyes off of her. She was staring right at me too. She behaved awkwardly as he hit about two chairs before she sat down near her mother, the seat that was directly opposite of me. My eyes couldn’t leave hers. It was like they were glued there. Her scent wafted gently towards me, and I closed my eyes as I sniffed it in. It was the best perfume I had ever smelt. It was so strong, so overbearing. I turned to look at Julia and my father, and they both looked normal. I am sure my father would have commented if he smelt something that strong, unless he did not smell it. I took a look back at my step sister, and it suddenly hit me like a splash of cold water. “Mate.” I whispered to myself, coming to the realisation that my new sister might be the person who was destined for me forever. I looked at her again, and she was looking anywhere but me. The overwhelming urge to reach forward and hold her came at me like a force, but I held it back. I can’t do this. She was my sister. I needed to remind myself of that. This was bad. Really, really bad. I shifted uncomfortably on my chair, wondering how the hell I was going to wriggle myself out of this damn mess.
