Chapter 13

I struggled to think straight with all the discomfort I was experiencing. There was only one thing in my head and that was to live, so I nodded with difficulty. The weight on top of my body finally lifted from me and I instantly felt alive again. I lay on the couch, gasping for breath. “It was indeed Eddie who took me to the hospital that day, but it was just a coincidence. He found me when I fainted on the street. I swear there’s really nothing between us.” Braydan was a really odd man. I was not even his wife, yet he was this upset about Eddie. I had a feeling he was really treating me like an object that belonged to him. Braydan sat on the couch across from the one I was on, then crossed his legs and leisurely lit a cigarette. The calm look on his face suggested that he believed what I told him. I clasped my hand over that painful wound on my neck then sat up. “Rest assured, I’ll never get back together with Eddie. He cheated on me back then so I won’t forgive him. The reason for my resignation is exactly what I said, I wanted a change of environment.” “You want to leave here? You want to leave me?” Braydan’s gaze suddenly went cold again as he flicked the ashes from his cigarette. He stared at me with the same intensity as before, like he wanted to murder someone. I did not deny it. Braydan exhaled a ring of smoke thoughtfully, then patted the seat next to him. “Come here.” The ring of smoke slowly drifted toward me. I immediately saw a glimmer of hope when I heard that his tone had softened a lot. I slowly got up then cautiously walked over to him. “You’ll approve my resignation, Mr. Braydan?” He snuffed out his cigarette in the ashtray, then narrowed his eyes at me. “Get on your knees and blow me.” His deep voice took on a commanding tone. I instantly tensed up as I looked at him incredulously. I nearly thought that I had heard him wrong. “Mr. Braydan, you…” “You want to resign right? I’ll give you a chance. Show me a good time and I’ll give it some consideration.” A smirk appeared on his face as he said that. I found his request bewildering, but at the same time I was also tempted to do it. If that was really all it took for me to resign without further problem, I would do it. I looked down and stared at the tips of his shoes, but I could not bring myself to my knees. It was simply too humiliating. I had always known that Braydan was a lunatic, but I never expected he was an extremely possessive pervert. The dim office grew strangely quiet. I clenched my fists tightly as I listened to my heart pounding in my chest. Braydan leaned back on the couch. He silently watched me, waiting for me to leave his office because he knew I would not dare to do it. I gritted my teeth and slowly got on my knees before him. We already had s*x once in the past, doing it one more time was no big deal. As long as he could let me go, I would force myself to do it with him one last time. I hesitated for a moment, but Braydan suddenly grabbed my arm. He sat up straight, parted his legs wider then roughly pulled me toward him. I fell between his legs and hit my face on his crotch. The cold metallic buckle of his belt pressed against my face, and I felt something hard below his belt pressing against my chin. The expression on my face contorted in surprise before my cheeks heated up. I struggled to get up. “W-Wait, Mr. Braydan! I’m not ready yet!” “Not ready?” Braydan grabbed my chin. He looked down at me and said, “But you were so bold and passionate that night. You don’t seem like a shy person.” I grew even more ashamed when I remembered that night. My face and my ears turned even redder. I was really into it that night. He was not wrong, but I retorted to save my dignity, “I was drunk that night! I wasn’t fully aware of my actions for most of the time!” Braydan reached out and ran his thumb along my lips. “What about now then?” The touch of his finger on my lips was light at first before he pressed hard on it, igniting the flame of desire in my heart. My voice trembled slightly as I replied to him, “I’m being forced to do this.” Braydan’s hand suddenly froze as hostility returned to his face. He grabbed my chin again, then told me in an extremely frosty voice, “Fine, carry on then.” I shuddered and grew nervous again. It seemed like he was being serious about it. I reached for his belt, then shakily tried to unbuckle it. The metal buckle opened with a click. The tent he had pitched in his black pants looked like it was about to pop out of its tight confines at any moment. I felt a squeeze in my heart and my hands were trembling like crazy. Memories from four years ago suddenly came flooding back to me all at once. I still remembered the size of Braydan’s monster. I might be able to take it when I was drunk, but I was not so sure about it now. I worried that my mouth would split open. To be honest, I was really starting to regret this. I withdrew my hand and pulled away from it, not daring to take this any further. Braydan bent over and looked into my eyes. “Why? Can’t go on?” he smiled smugly at me. His question made me even more nervous. He was right though. I really could not go on. I could not even pretend about it. I hung my head and answered his question with silence. Braydan reached out and stroked my cheek. He lifted my face, then captured my lips with his. He pressed his warm and soft lips on mine. The kiss was not intense this time, and he quickly released me. “If you can’t do it then be good and stay by my side.” After saying that, he picked up my resignation letter from the ground and tossed it into the bin. It was at this time, someone knocked on the door. “Mr. Chairman, Young Master Dorr is here.” That voice belonged to Arthur. Braydan composed himself, then returned to his desk and sat down. “You can leave now.” I hurriedly got up and immediately left his office. As soon as I walked out of the door, I saw a little boy who seemed about three or four years old. He was wearing a suit, looking sharper than most kids his age. Arthur walked past me with him. “Mr. Arthur,” I acknowledged his presence then quickened my pace to the elevator. “Wait!” Someone suddenly called out to me from behind. I turned around and realized that it was that little boy. He jogged over to me, then stared at me with his huge round eyes for a moment before saying, “Ma’am, do you know Sofia?” “What?” I was so shocked that I almost doubted my ears. The little boy repeated her name again earnestly, “Sofia, a very beautiful girl.” He knew Sofia?! I hurriedly shook my head and said, “I don’t.” The little boy c****d his head to the side and scrutinized me. “You really look a lot like her mother.” He had seen me before? I looked at him in horror as panic filled my heart. Who was this little boy? How did he know about Sofia? How did he find out that I was Sofia’s mother? A plethora of questions ran through my head, but I suddenly remembered Arthur addressing him as Young Master Dorr. Dorr… This little boy must be Sofia’s new friend, Dorr Taylor! So he was really related to Braydan! Dear God, this was all too much of a coincidence! I hurriedly denied it. “No, you must have gotten the wrong person. I don’t know anyone named Sofia. You must have remembered it wrongly.” The little boy scratched the back of his head in confusion. “Did I? The woman in the photo that Sofia showed me really looked like you.” Photo? What photo? I never gave Sofia any photo. She must have secretly taken a picture of me with my phone. I immediately said, “It’s normal for people to look different in real life and photos. You must have made a mistake.” The little boy seemed convinced. He pursed his lips then nodded. “I’m terribly sorry, ma’am.” He bowed to me apologetically. After saying that, he turned back and went into Braydan’s office. Not long after that, Arthur came out from the office too. I stopped him at the elevator and asked, “Who’s that little boy, Mr. Arthur?” Arthur threw a glance at Braydan’s office then replied, “The Mr. Taylor’s younger brother...” “Younger brother?!” I nearly shouted in surprise. I never expected Braydan to have such a young brother. Arthur saw the confusion on my face and quickly explained, “I meant to say that he’s the son of Mr. Taylor’s younger brother. Basically, Braydan’s nephew.” I finally understood him now. The Mr. Taylor he was referring to earlier was Braydan’s father. The Taylor family was really a big family. “I see.” I took a deep breath, my legs were feeling a little weak. If Braydan overheard our conversation earlier, the secret would be out. I could not help but worry about Sofia again. If she got too close with another member from the Taylor family, that would only put us at a greater risk. When I returned home today, I must warn Sofia to keep her distance from Taylor.
