LEANNA’S POV “Let’s not do that again,” I breathed, shifting in my steps as I tried to regain my balance. “You’ll get used to it after a while,” Robin cajoled with a small smile on her face. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, as I wasn’t ready to experience another bout of headaches. “Let’s just go,” I said, grabbing her arm as I steadied myself. “With pleasure,” she said, walking towards a black limo with my arm wrapped around hers. The walk to the vehicle was brisk, but it was long enough for my blurry gaze to return to normal. And in that exact moment, I was able to stop and take in the city lights. Even though I could only view them from afar. “Beautiful right? Wait till you get to its heart,” Robin whistled from beside me as she pulled me along with her. We stepped into the limo, not wasting any time as we popped open the customary champagne. Robin smile at me with two half-filled glasses in her hands. I moved to grab one from her as she clinked my glass. Her rosy red lips stretched wide as she let out with a light chuckle. “Let the merriment begin.” Our favorite song immediately followed, and the next thing I knew, the rooftop was left open as Robin pulled me along with her, “Come on! The view up here is great.” I stared at her, then back at the glass in my hand. Saying a light prayer before downing the glass before I stood up and let my head pop out of the vehicle. “Woah!” I breathed as my gaze caught that of the sprawling skyscrapers, the exotic cars that wheezed past us in droves, and the multitude of people that populated the streets. Car honks, along with the sound of different voices dominated the streets. It took everything in me not to recoil back into the sound proof limo, and away from the noise. “What is this place!” I yelled over the wind as I turned to Robin. Stars still shining in my eyes. “This!” Robin let out with her arms wide, “Belongs to us!” her eyes sparkled as she finished her statement. Her enthusiasm was infectious as I found myself moving to the beat of the music. Another bottle of champagne in my hand, as I let loose. “We’re here,” Robin let out with an excited smile as she pointed towards a shining bar. The words The lost city, were coated in purple lights as they shine fiercely. “Where’s here?” I asked, waving my arms towards the building. My speech slurred, and I knew I was already slightly tipsy. “This is where the rest of our entertainment lies,” Robin added with mischief glinting in her eyes. A bright smile dotted my lips at her words. I had never seen this side of Robin. She was always so calm, collected and silent back at the island. It suddenly felt like I never really knew my best friend, even though we grew up together. “Come on!” she let out. I shook my head with a smile, taking another large gulp of the bottle of champagne in my hand, before following her down, and into the club. We strutted with unmatched confidence as we bypassed the line of people clamoring to get in. “Garcia,” Robin said with folded arms as she stared down the older man that stood by the door with a list in his arms. He stared back at her, his gaze flitting over my features briefly, before he stepped aside to let us in. “As I thought,” Robin muttered with a smile as she pulled me in. “Hey! That’s not fair!” “Why do they get to go in?” “Hey I’m with them too!” The clamoring intensified behind us, the minute we were let in. Robin didn’t have to tug on my sleeves before I rushed to move into the building with her. So much so that I only caught a glimpse of the doorman muttering into his walkie-talkie before the door closed behind us. “Over there!” Robin yelled over the loud music as she led us towards a bar. We pushed through the crowd of people dancing before we finally made it. I was appaled to see the number of people present, especially with how exclusive the club seemed to be. We stood with our backs against the counter as Robin continued to survey the area. Unable to hold back my curiosity, I asked. “What are you looking for?” I yelled over the music multiple times as annoyance began to seep into my tone. Robin faced me with a confused expression before a look of realization finally dawned on her features. I craned my ears in to listen to her closely. “Our dates!” she said giddily. My cheeks flushed at her words. Being the heir of a mafia family also meant not being able to come in contact with the opposite s*x. Unless it was a subordinate. And I wasn’t one for blurring lines. “Wait here,” Robin yelled once again, not giving me a chance to get a word in before she disappeared into the crowd. I pursed my lips. Turning towards the bar as I waited for her to return. I slowly grew bored as it felt like she had been gone for hours. “Hey beautiful. Can I get you a drink?” A slurred voice drifted into my ear, startling me. I stepped back to see a tall blonde with grey eyes. He would’ve looked good, if not for the obvious fact that he was as drunk as a horse. “No thank you,” I said. Slightly thankful I still had my thoughts in check. I moved away from him, only to feel his cold hands wrap around my forearm. A slight chill ran down my spine as I moved to dislocate his wrist. “I think the young lady said no,” a cold voice rang out. But unlike the first one, he actually sounded sober. Before I could even do anything, the drunk’s fingers were pried off my forearm like they meant nothing. “Whatever,” the drunkard spat, turning to leave after throwing me a nasty look. I turned to look at him, only to be left tongue tied at his features. Simple black hair and eyes that exuded an effortless elegance. A face that looked like it was sculpted by nature itself. And lips that called out endlessly to me. “Are you okay?” he asked confidently. My gaze cleared as I was snapped out of my reverie. I massaged my forearm as I let out, “Thanks but I can take care of myself.” The surprise that flitted across his gaze sent a flurry of giddiness through me. “I don’t doubt that,” he let out a light chuckle, followed by a smirk that would send any unsuspecting woman to her knees. “I’m Romeo miss warrior. And you are?” he asked, his dark gaze focused on mine as he stood with an outstretched arm. I kept silent for a while as my gaze flitted continuously between his face and his arm. A resigned sigh escaped my lips as I took it reluctantly. “Leanna. Or Leah for short,” I said, snaking my palm into his, wondering how it fit so perfectly. “Leanna,” he said repeatedly, dragging it, playing with it as it let it dance around the tip of his tongue. I hated the way it made me feel but I made no move to stop it, or pull my hand away as we both stood. My palm in his, with gazes that refused to pull away. “Can we go somewhere else to talk Leanna?” he asked, his hand still holding on to mine, pulling me closer, forcing me to breathe in his scent. And before I knew it, we were moving towards a VIP section, with walls that blocked out the music. And suddenly, it was just us two that existed. My legs trembled slightly as I knew no good could come from that.
