KAEL “Go where?” Her voice cut through the breeze, low but edged with panic. It wasn’t meant for me to hear —I could tell by the way she winced the moment the words left her lips, but I heard them, loud and clear. “Go back to camp,” she said quickly, rubbing the back of her neck, that awkward little smile twitching at the corner of her lips. I narrowed my eyes. She was lying. It didn’t seem like the kind of lie meant to deceive, or maybe it was.
