My breath hitched, his lips parted.
And then….
Our heads leaned toward one another, so slowly it felt like time itself had grown shy. Kael’s head leaned to the left, and mine to the right. I closed my eyes, my heart thudding against my ribs as if it longed to leap out of my chest and into his. My palms turned warm, unbearably warm and before I knew it, I was fanning myself with one hand, trying to calm the heat that had rushed through me.
I’d only been kissed once before, just once, my first night with Kael, which was over five years ago. And now here I was again, my entire body trembling in anticipation, my breath shallow and my heart whispering a thousand possibilities of what his lips would feel like pressed against mine.
Seconds stretched, and nothing happened.
