Chapter 3- A fight with a Monster

Elise's POV My heart slammed hard against my ribcage as its bony fingers pressed hard against my neck . I felt suffocated, short of breath, but he pushed me further and slammed my spinal cord on the cold wall. He leaned closer, his features hidden by the darkness, “You're so beautiful, but even as much as your beauty is captivating, I still want to tear you open and feast on your flesh. It's been a while since I had something so fresh and pure.” His words sent a shiver down my spine. I could call this my doom, perhaps he was going to kill me before I get beheaded. My gaze lingered on the dagger in his hands and I swallowed hard, “you really don't have to kill me. We could have a last conversation here and be friends.” my whole mind screamed at the nonsense I just blurted out, and when the figure stepped into the light, my mouth went dry. Apart from the rotten odor he reeked of, his clothes were bathed in blood, his whole body as well. His hair flowed past his waist—showing he's been here for a long time. His face looked healthy, he had no wounds, but he still seemed frail with his bones peeping out of his flesh. My vision blurred with tears as he raised the dagger and licked it with his tongue, “the dagger tastes sweet enough, but with your blood on it, it would taste heavenly. Come now.” he gestured towards me, his voice making my toes curl, “come now and we'll make this fast. I'll snap your neck and make everything easy, hm?” He talked about killing me like he was talking about breakfast, how great? Being killed by a flesh eating demon wasn't part of what I'd imagined. While he stepped closer, I moved away and stepped backwards, careful not to trip. With each step, my heart pounded hard, growing restless with each passing second. The dungeon cell was huge enough, I had enough space to run, but the blood sucking demon was going to catch me anyways. “I like giving my meal a chase.” He grinned, his lips twitching, “You can run but you can't hide.” Hot tears burned my eyes and I wondered if this was really the end. I ran around the whole cell, panting hard from exhaustion, but the figure stood at a spot, staring at me with his eyes full of amusement. “You know, I've always been given dead bodies, you're the first to be brought alive. You are just a gift from the moon goddess.” “What do you derive from eating people, you beast!” I snapped, driven to rage. His eyes flashed coldly as a dark, creepy chuckle escaped his lips, “there's something about the taste, the refreshing taste of blood as it moves down my throat. It makes me feel alive and strong again, but it also makes me thirsty for more.” My stomach churned with disgust at the strange words that just flowed out of his mouth. He didn't just stop there. His eyes seemed to be full of hope when he said, “And flesh? It tastes like raw meat, but rather than cooking it, it regains the whole taste while eating it raw. It tastes like uncooked ste—” “Stop!” I raised my hands, covering up my ears, “stop, I don't want to hear you talk about how delicious a being like yourself tastes like.” “You asked for it, telling you more would gladen my heart.” “Then spare me and I'll tolerate your talking.” “You're the wise type.” He smirked, toying with the dagger in his hands, “but I've always been curious to what a female rogue would taste like.” My legs buckled beneath me as fear clawed at my heart. His words rendered me completely speechless, breathless, I had to place my hands on my chest to stabilize my heartbeat. “You've only been eating men? Your own gender?” He nodded slowly, his eyes never wavering from mine, “enough of the talking.” He stepped closer, and I moved away, “I've given you enough time to run. Now, you just have to stand while I drill this dagger through your heart.” I clenched my fists hard, “You didn't give me enough time” I breathed, shaking my head as I turned sideways, “running in the hallway would have been better than being trapped in the same room with you.” “That's none of my business.” He shrugged, “I've been fair on my path.” My gaze lingered on the weapons a few meters away and I smiled, running towards them. I pulled out a sword and placed it before me, “come close and you're getting it.” my movements were slow, but if killing this beast would take my last strength, then I'd give it a shot. He kept on staring at me as a dark scowl covered his face. He looked enraged, his nostrils flared as his grip on the dagger tightened, “I'm done chasing my meal!” He snapped before charging towards me in a fit of anger. I dogged his attack with only a bit of luck on my side. Each hit was desperate, like he was badly ready to butcher me and have my whole body in half. While he slashed his dagger again, I blocked it with my sword, holding it with everything I had left, “This will only weaken you.” he slurred, tilting his head to the sides, “being killed by me is better than being beheaded.” “That's for me to decide.” I removed the sword and charged towards him. He dodged my attacks effortlessly and smiled harder, “You're gradually losing your strength. Soon it will fail you.” My vision turned hazy, “It's none of your business.” His dagger sliced my arm and a short gasp escaped my lips. I fell to the ground at his mercy, but he didn't stop there. He sliced my other arm and stared at the dagger coated with my blood. He drawed out his tongue and licked it, “Just like I'd imagined, females taste sweeter.” While he was still obsessing over my blood, I reached for my sword and stabbed his abdomen. Blood slowly drained from his face, as his dagger fell to the ground. His gaze traveled lower, landing on his pierced flesh and he groaned, “You win, rouge.”
