I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I had a feeling my parents did. I suppressed the voice in my head and tried to sleep, with no success might I add. It was hard to remain calm when I knew things were going wrong.
I must have dosed off at some point during the night because I could hear my mother's voice trying to wake me. I groaned and pulled the covers over my head to hide for the sunlight. Mother sure knows how to wake me.
“Upsy-daisy-sleepy head” she sang. I laid there motionless not sure if I was ready to hear the truth of all this madness. “Ugghhh......fine, I'm up, now please close the blinds” I said reluctantly. “No can-do kiddo, your father and I need to speak with you, I need you to be alert.” I sighed loud enough for her to point her finger at me and say “No, no, none of that. We have serious matters to discuss. Get up, shower and we shall meet you downstairs for brunch.” I looked at my phone and realized I somehow managed to sleep until 11:45am. “I mean it sweet-pea, don’t make me come up and get you.” And with that she left my room.
I laid there for a few more minutes contemplating things. I’m not sure what there is to discuss, but of this, I’m sure; my parents were hiding something big and by the looks of it all I was at the center of it. I finally got up, showered and got dressed, my phone had about 17 missed calls from Flinn and well over 20 text messages. He was worried about me, he always worries, but I wasn’t ready to speak with Flinn just yet. I need answers, answers only my parents can give me. The plan was clear, ask questions, get answers and then call Flinn. Afterall, he needed an explanation after the stunt I pulled.
As I went downstairs, I could smell mom's famous turkey bacon and pancakes, my favorite! “Hey now! Leave some for me!” I told my father as he was making himself a plate. “Well hurry down sleeping beauty and they’re maybe some left over for you”, he said and made a silly face.
My stepfather is a great man, he came into our lives when I was 4 years old. Sion, my father, was born in Wrexham, he comes from money but made it a point to make a name for himself despite his father's reputation. I don’t know much of his father, not because I haven't asked, but because Sion doesn’t like speaking of him. What little I do know is that his father was a man whose life was led by greed, self-righteousness, and many more horrible things, none of which Sion was proud of. Sion and Flinn are 10 years apart and to say they are different is an understatement, they are complete opposites.
I took a seat next to my father as I did mother placed a glass of orange juice next to me. “Thanks mom, so what is it that we need to discuss?” My parents gave each other a strange look, father nodded, and mom began.
“Now Lyneth I would like for you to hear all that we have to say before ask any questions. There’s a lot to be said, but believe us when we say, all your questions will be answered regardless of how strange the truth might seem.” My mother said and all I could do was give her a small nod and let her continue. No matter what was going to be said, I knew my life would permanently change as of today. I'm not sure how it’ll affect me, but of this I was sure, Naga was about to be explained to me.
“Lyneth, you were born in Wales to a man I once called the love of my life, I would say he was my soulmate, but I've learned differently since Sion and I met. Your birth father was a shifter, as am I. Sion is one as well. We are all dragons. We’ve kept it hidden from you for all these years because we thought your dragon would never surface, that was a mistake on our end.” She looked at my father with tears in her eyes, he continued for her. “Sweetheart, please do not be upset with your mother, we simply kept you out of the dark for your own protection. You see, I am an Alpha King to all the Dragon Realms and your mother Queen. I have many enemies who would love to weaken me and take the throne. If my enemies knew I have a daughter who is a shifter, I fear that if not all but some, kingdoms would be at war.” My father paused and took my mother's hand in his. My mother then spoke, “Lyneth, dragons' surface at the age of 13, when you turned 13 and nothing happened, your father and I made the choice of keeping our lives hidden from you. We thought you were dragonless, to us that that meant we would never be at war, it also brought us peace, in some way. What we didn’t expect is to have your dragon surface at 18, it’s unheard of.”
She tried to reach for my hand, but I immediately pulled my hand away, I was in such disbelieve. They’ve been lying to me all this time, and for what? Peace? Was any of this true? “Yes, all of this is true, we have no reason to lie anymore” stated my father. I looked at him shocked, did he just read my mind. “Yes, we can mind link other shifters. But please us finish and we’ll answer all the questions stirring in your mind right now.” I nodded and let them continue.
