Albreda sat by the stream, the crystal-clear water of Serenity Pond visible in the distance, as a wolf pup gnawed ineffectually at her finger. At her feet, Sable watched the pup, one of three, while Fang sat patiently, enduring the attention of the other two.
A black bird cawed and then flew overhead, and Albreda lay back onto the ground. Her head turned dizzy, and she closed her eyes, this time embracing the vision that was to come. The sounds in the background disappeared, and she found herself looking at the circle of stone. She spoke the words of power, and the surrounding runes glowed, the air swirled, and then trees moved, bending their branches at her command. Fang was there too, watching her, his head tilted as he so often did.
