29 Zack I blink up at the darkness, the room dimly lit by the half-full moon and the stars, sounds of night creatures outside a serene lullaby. But no matter how serene it all seems, something woke me up, something out of the ordinary. Taking slow breaths, I search for what might have woken me up. I listen to the breathing of the others, their slow and steady sounds. The deepest one being Max, and then Spence’s breathing, nearly synchronised with him, and finally Liam, who softly snores, though not strong enough to keep any of us up. Then I realise what’s off. Cyra isn’t asleep. Her breathing is much too fast for that. And, as I listen, she lets out a quiet hiss. She’s trying to keep her voice down, but even though I’m on the far side of the bed from her, it’s pretty obvious. My heart
