Bonfire Fun

1760 Words
Mal POV My team meets in the hall outside my door to go to the welcome party together. This is nothing new for us. A bonfire is our weekly ritual back home as a way for everyone to relax and have some fun. Some of us bring food while some bring music. Hannah let it slip one time that I love to sing and the guys begged me to sing for them. How can you say no to that many puppy dog eyes? From then on, I sing at least once every time we have one. Luckily there is no guitar in sight among the guys. We make our way out the back door and head over to the blazing fire. There are tables lined up to the left with food and drinks that already have hungry wolves filling their plates. Speakers are set up around the area playing music and some people are dancing along. As we get there, some of my team goes to the tables while the rest stay with me. Looking around the area to make sure the area is guarded, I spot Ollie and Emma. Emma turns and sees me standing with the guys then starts walking my way. Ollie has a smile on his face when he notices me still scoping the place. “Don’t worry about that. I have that covered and have fifty wolves around the perimeter.” “I don’t know what you are talking about, Ollie. Just looking at all the trainees for the summit,” I lie. Ollie just gives me a ‘yeah right’ look. We have a mini stare off but after a few minutes, I give up. “Okay. Okay. Maybe I was but you can never be too safe.” “Gets you every time, midget. My dad told me it still works on you,” he laughs. Quickly linking Uncle Nick telling him he’s in trouble when I get back, I glare at Ollie. “Don’t call me midget,” I tell him as I step forward. I see Emma take a few steps to the side while trying not to laugh. “Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it, shorty?” Ollie goes a step further and pats my head. “I’ll show you what this shorty can do,” I say as I tackle him. Ollie tries to get me off but I have the upper hand. As I am about to win, the smell of my mate hits my nose. I look around to see where he is and hoping to get a glimpse of him. Ollie takes advantage of the distraction and pins me to the ground. “I win,” he smiles. “I never win against you. This is going on the calendar.” I’m not really paying attention to him as Gwen is pushing me to find her mate. No matter where I look though, he is nowhere to be seen. Where is he? There must have been something in my eyes and Ollie let me up. “He will be here in a minute. Alexander is double-checking patrols to ensure nothing can get through.” Is Ollie a mind reader or something? “You left your block down. So no, I’m not technically a mind reader... well kind of but not the way you were thinking.” I just punch his arm and proceed to look around the area. I’m also hoping to not see anyone I know from Silver Moon. Scanning to my right, I see the blonde from earlier. Her back is to me and talking to some males who look invested in whatever she’s saying. One of the guys turns around and my heart stops. It is Kyle, Peter's best friend and soon-to-be Beta. If he is here then so is Peter. Kyles looks towards my group and does a double take with shock. As I turn away to talk to the guys, I see him bend down to talk to someone. “They are here,” was all I said to Hannah and Bryce. They look behind me and anger covers their faces. Everyone is looking confused and hoping for me to explain. “Who?” Bruce asks, putting his hand on my shoulder. I look at him hoping my expression said it all. Taking a deep breath to answer, I get stopped by my name being called out from behind. Sending a quick glance at Bruce I turn around. Gasps could be heard as well as the whispers. They are either asking if it’s really me or why I was with the Royal trainers. Looking directly at the person approaching I see it’s none other than Peter Rollins. The closer he gets, the more tension I feel from the guys. “Mal? Is that really you?” Peter asks with a hopeful look. “Peter,” was all I said because I might lose it. Bruce gives a low growl and moves closer to me in a protective stance. Peter sees the movement and glares at Bruce. “Where have you been? I have looked everywhere for you but it was like you disappeared into thin air,” he tells me then turns to Bruce. “You have 2 seconds to step away from my mate.” Bruce looks at Peter with a smug expression. “Or what, pup?” “Or I’ll have to remove you myself,” was Peter's reply as his eyes darkened with anger. “I’d like to see you try. Mal is no longer your mate and you lost all rights to her when you rejected her.” Bruce takes a step forward. “Keep in mind that you are talking to a Royal trainer.” Peter takes a step back looking at Bruce. With his anger gone slightly he turned to me. “Is he your boyfriend? Figures since you were the pack slut.” Before he continued his insults, I punched him in the face and he falls to the ground. The sound of hurried feet makes me look up to see Allison running to help Peter. “I have had enough of your insults, Peter! You rejected me for the real slut. You chose the one who opens her legs for anyone willing. It’s funny how you call me that when I have waited for my mate. As for the matter of Bruce. He is my Co-Captain and is a big brother to me. You will show me respect from here on out,” I yell at him while he holds his bleeding nose. “YOU b***h! I’m going to make you pay for what you did,” Allison screams and lunges at me. Before she could touch me, I punched her and she fell down beside Peter. “Pathetic, the both of you,” I say and turn to leave. “Don’t walk away from me! I’m your mate,” Peter yells standing up. “Not anymore. You rejected me and now I have found my second chance,” I tell him through gritted teeth. “That’s impossible. Who?” Shock evident on his face at my words. “Me,” I hear from my left. Alexander is standing there looking angry. He walks over and stands by me looking at Peter. My guys give an almost inaudible growl but I link them to stop. “I’m her mate now and you have no claim on her. Your chosen mate, Allison, actually tried to seduce me earlier today. If you still think she is Luna material then you are an idiot.” Peter turned to Allison and waited for her to answer. When she didn’t say anything he growled out “Is that true?” She turned to him and managed some fake tears. “No baby. You’re the only one I want. I have done no such thing.” “Yes you did,” my team says at the same time. She turned to us with a hateful expression as Peter stormed off. Her stare lingered on me before she turned to go after Peter. “Everyone, can I have your attention? I want to express my deepest apologies for the situation that just took place. Let’s have a good time tonight and have fun,” I say to everyone. People go back to what they were doing as if nothing happened and I take a deep breath. “Can we talk?” Alexander asks from beside me. I turn to look at him and see hope in his eyes. I glance at Hannah who nods her head to hear him out. “Sure but not right now. Let’s enjoy the festivities” I reply. This talk can go one of two ways. I could either end up happy or end up disappointed. Alexander gives a half smile and nods his head. Being distracted by Alexander I didn’t see Bryce pull a guitar out and sit on one of the logs placed around the fire. “Hey, Mal! Care to grace us with a song?” “Where did you get that? Out of thin air?” I ask, trying to figure out where he got it. “Oliver brought it down with him earlier. So will you?” Bryce is looking at me with puppy eyes again. I bet if I look at my team they are too. So I turn to them and, sure enough, they are. “Fine, what song?” I ask out. The guys cheer at this which causes me to chuckle. Hannah pipes up and says, “I wanna dance with somebody by Whitney Houston.” I take a seat by Bryce and he starts playing. As the song goes on, everyone starts to gather around to listen. I can feel Alexander’s eyes on me as I sing along to the cords. As the song ends, everyone claps and whistles. This is my first time singing in front of this many people and my heart leaps at the outcome. When I look at Alexander he has a giant smile on his face clapping. The rest of the night goes on without any more mishaps. Everyone was requesting songs and dancing to them as Bryce and I played them. I decide to call it a night and head to my room. I get halfway to the house when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I know it’s Alexander from the scent and turn around. “Can we talk now?” He asks.
