CHAPTER3:

Aisy knew who he was; she never forgets faces. ‘So, he is the doctor?’ Well, that’s a great start to ruin her day. “Babe!” Kristene called, leading Zayne to look up to her. “…. Are you OK?” she asked. “Yah, you paged me,” Zayne spoke, walking down the ward like nothing had just happened. He walked to Hellen’s bed. “I told you about Hellen,” Kristen spoke, taking the chart from Hellen's bedside table and handing it to Zayne. “So, this must be the lucky guy,” Hellen spoke with a teasing smile on her face, leading Zayne to smile back as he opened her chart. Kristene looked at Aisy, who said nothing, rather than stand looking at them with her hands crossed over her chest. “Do you guys know each other?” Kristene asked. “What?” Zayne asked, looking up to Kristene. “That’s my best friend Aisy,” Kristene said, pointing at Aisy, who was standing at the foot of the bed. Zayne looked at her “We met” Aisy said “Really? Where?” Kristene asked happily. Aisy looked back at Zayne, who looked at Kristene. “Apparently, he is a friend of Ian’s dad,” Aisy said. Kristene looked at Zayne, her face filled with confusion. “We were supposed to talk about it during dinner, it's Mark,” Zayne said. Kristene was stunned, her mouth agape. “Oh my God!” Kristene spoke in shock, “…. Mark is the father?” she asked, shocked. It’s not like the discussion was uncomfortable for Zayne, no. But the fact Aisy being there made him so uncomfortable. He didn’t want to say or do anything to ruin the moment. On the other hand, Aisy was furious, the things that the family had to go through and the father of the baby was present, made her furious. She tried to stay calm for the sake of Hellen. She needed her mother to have the surgery and if that is the doctor they were going to get, it’s worth a shot, she just had to stay calm. There is no way that she was convinced that Mark hadn’t told his friends about the baby. She believed he did, and that might be the reason he wasn’t there for his son. “I need the nurse to run some more tests and get back to me. The CT is not done, Angiography, cardiac, pulmonary, some laboratory and EFG. Zayne spoke, closed the chart and handed it to Kristen across her. She received, “…. I didn’t see them there,” he added. “Then?” Aisy asked. “Then miss Aisy….” he spoke, turning to look at Aisy. “…after having the results, I’ll be able to know if I can operate today,” he added. “Thank you, Doctor,” Hellen spoke. “I’ll see you soon, Hellen,” Zayne said to Hellen with a warm smile, turned and walked out of the ward with his hand in his lab coat pockets. “I didn’t know that Mark is the father,” Kristene said. “If that is your fiancée, I wonder what his friend looks like,” Hellen teased. “Mom!” Aisy exclaimed unbelievably. “I am just saying, I am not mad at your sister anymore as long as he looks like that,” Hellen said. “We actually work with him; him and Zayne own this hospital and like two more,” Kristene spoke proudly. She really wins the jackpot with her fiancée. I mean the money, the fame, and he chose to spend the rest of his life with her. “Can I see him?” Hellen asked. “Mom!” Aisy couldn’t believe her mom was acting like that. “What?” Hellen asked, turning to Aisy. “I don’t want to see him here; you have a doctor. Can you please just deal with this first?” Aisy said. “OK, Mrs. bossy,” Hellen spoke. Aisy was always the responsible one in the family, not for her mother or her sister. “Aisy!” Jess called from the door; they all turned to him. Aisy smiled after seeing her. Jess walked towards her and the two hugged, a long hug. It'd been so long since they had seen each other, “…. Oh my God, look at you,” she spoke happily as they unhugged her hands still on her shoulders. “I miss you so much Jess, I am so glad they moved you back to LA,” Aisy spoke happily. “I was so glad when I got that letter,” Jess said and chuckled. Aisy smiled, chuckled, looking at her. She then turned to Hellen. “Mom, do you remember Jess?” Aisy asked. “I do; she lived across the street from our house before they moved to Poland,” Hellen said as Jess moved from Aisy towards her bed. Reaching there, she held her hand softly. “Hey Hellen!” Jess greeted “Oh, it’s been so long, my dear, how are you?” Hellen asked. “I am OK, am sorry we got to meet like this after so long,” Jess said. “Hopefully it won’t be the last time we meet,” Hellen said. “It surely wont” Jess said smiling “You guys look like you have a lot to catch up on. I'll leave you to it. I have to hand these to a nurse and I will be back,” Kristene spoke. “Thank you Kristene,” Aisy said. “Don’t mention it,” Kristene said. “Wait for me for the good gossip,” Kristene said as she let herself get to the door. “Like what don’t you know?” Jess teased as Kristene walked out of the ward. Aisy walked to where Kristene was and took a sit on the chair that was kept beside the bed. “So, what do you do here?” Hellen asked. “I am a pediatrician,” Jess said. “Look at you,” Hellen said, proudly holding Jess’s hand well. “At least we know where to bring Ian if anything happens,” Aisy said. The three were happy, laughing, reminding themselves how good it was to be young, it was the most beautiful life back then. Zayne just needed to get things off his head. ‘What the f**k is my problem?’ he thought as he got into the on-call room where he found Mark sitting on the bed. “What are you doing here?” Zayne asked as he closed the door behind him. “I want to go home to freshen up before I go to Fatima,” Mark spoke, looking down. “You realize this is not the locker room,” Zayne said. Mark looked up to Zayne “I know nothing about my son; I haven’t been there even once, and I just have to go there and pretend I am the greatest dad in the world,” Mark said. Zayne looked at him. He understood what Mark was saying, he walked to him and sat next to him. “We all start somewhere Mark. You have to take your son in. We’ll make a name for him and Fatima and no one will know anything,” Zayne said. “I am not talking about the name, I am just saying…. “You’re going to be a great dad. Just start here, go and see him, and you may fall in love and never want to let him go,” Zayne interrupted. Mark half smiled “Thanks buddy,” Mark said. “You go get ready,” Zayne said, beating his shoulder slightly. “You’re coming, right?” Mark asked. “Are you kidding?” Zayne asked, smiling. “…I’ll be there as soon as your mother-in-law's results are in,” he added. “Mother-in-law?” Mark asked, confused. “Fatima’s mom is here,” Zayne said. “Are you kidding me? Is she OK?” Mark asked, concerned. “She has a tumor, so I need to operate tomorrow,” Zayne said. “Is Fatima here?” Mark asked. “No, her sister is,” Zayne said. “The sexy one?” Mark asked. “Dude!” Zayne exclaimed. “What? I talked to Justin last night, and he is going to track that girl down and not in a way like Mark's way, actually as in you and Kristene's way,” Mark said. “He just met her; he doesn't know her,” Zayne said. “I didn’t know Fatima, and now I am the father of her child,” Mark said. Zayne wasn’t pleased with that, he just forced a smile on his face. “I will get going now, see you at 3,” Mark said, stood and walked out of the room. ‘Justin’ he thought, not knowing what to even think. He was Justin. He understood Justin because, the way Justin felt, he felt the same. Allan stood at his table putting his things in place so that when he is back, he knew exactly where to find what he wanted. The door to his office was opened, leading him to look up to it. Ashlee walked in her brown suit having a black shirt inside, black heels, and her black Hermes Birkin in her hand, her brown hair over her shoulders. She was stunning, the exact woman he had fallen in love with since high school, but with the scandal of her cheating, and it’s not like she didn’t, the solution was divorce people with such status. “Hey husband,” she said, walking towards his table. “Ex-husband,” he corrected as he looked back down, putting his pens in place. “Our divorce is not finalized yet. Till then, I am still your wife,” she said, putting her Birkin on the table. Allan exhaled heavily and looked up at her. “What do you want, Ashlee?” he asked. “For us to talk, for you to stop avoiding me for the sake of God here, Allan.” Ashlee, please “I think it's best if we don’t talk until the divorce is finalized,” he said. “Why am I even getting a divorce, Allan?” she asked as she walked round the table to him. “Are you seriously asking that?” he asked. “I lost control, Allan. You haven’t been with me for almost a year. He was the closest person to me. I didn’t mean it,” she explains politely as her hand reached his coat. He looked down at her, her beautiful cat eyes, her face. He loved her, he was angry, but he loved her. His heart pounding as he stared into her eyes. His gaze shifted down to her lips, she was perfect. He gulped, looking away, his hand reached hers, removed them from his coat and backed away one step from her. “You made your choice, Ashlee,” he said. “I made a mistake. I even think you’re f*****g someone else like who doesn’t touch her spouse for almost a year,” she said. “I got busy, sales were low. I was trying to be a better husband so that you don’t miss anything. The private jet, the Birkin’s’, vacation you needed that,” he spoke, looking at her. His eyes showed how hurt he really was. “I also needed you, Allan, you were not there,” she spoke as her eyes filled with tears. “Please don’t cry,” he said. She looked down. He was out of words, he was hurt, very hurt. His phone on the table lit with an alarm, he looked at it and took it from the table. It was time for him to go. He stopped the alarm and looked at Ashlee “Next time,” he spoke and turned to walk away. “You see what I am talking about,” she said, leading him to turn back to her. “…. Even now when I am trying to fix things with you, you still don’t give me time,” she cried. “There is nothing to fix Ashlee,” he said. “…have a good day,” she said shortly, turned and walked away out of the office, leaving Ashlee hurt, crying. She regretted it, and she was hurt that the person she loved was not hers anymore, and it was all her fault.
