The forest smelled of damp earth and pine, the morning light dappled across frost-laced leaves. The pack moved quietly around the clearing, returning to their routines after the battle. Wolves padded through the underbrush, the younger ones practicing with Tom and Lila, and Meghan watched from the edge of the clearing, Wynter stretching luxuriously beside her. Brett approached, coffee steaming in one hand, his other brushing frost away from Meghan’s hair. “Sleep well?” he asked, amber eyes teasing. “I did,” Meghan said softly, leaning into him. “For the first time in weeks, I feel… normal.
