Sophia felt as if she lay in molten lava, scorched by boiling fire.
In her haze, she heard the voices of Laura and the doctor. Struggling to open her eyes, she saw Laura anxiously looking down at her.
"Ma'am, how do you feel? Are you in much discomfort?"
Laura's words were tinged with worried sobs, "You've had a high fever, and it hasn't subsided even after an IV. The family doctor suggested hospitalization. Mr. Taylor hasn't returned yet, and we can't reach him."
Sophia knew that Benjamin never cared much for her. Now he was accompanying Harper. How could he be distracted to answer Laura's call?
"Don't contact him. Follow the doctor's advice..." She whispered in a hoarse voice before slipping back into a drowsy slumber.
An hour later, Benjamin returned to Oakleaf Estates.
