The next day, when Rosa arrived at work, Samuel brought good news. They had found the person who stole the data. It was Daniel Lee's student, Brian, but he had already fled.
Lee looked guilty. As soon as Rosa entered the office, he apologized, "I'm sorry, Ms. Everly. I misjudged him completely and caused this."
Rosa comforted Lee briefly and asked Samuel, "What happened?"
Samuel shook his head. "Brian's roommate hasn't seen him in days. He probably ran as soon as things went south. No one expected it to be one of Lee's students, so by the time we figured it out, we'd already lost our chance."
Rosa pressed, "Have you checked his social connections?"
Samuel nodded. "Ms. Everly, we are on it. Don't worry."
