Chapter 4

1134 Words
Her heart completely dropped, and the medicine bottle she was holding smashed onto the floor. "Let her go..." Rosie couldn't believe their four years together just boiled down to Dylan saying "let her go" like it was nothing. It was like she wasn't even his girlfriend, just some random, disposable distraction. Hearing the crash, Dylan turned around and caught Rosie staring. He looked a bit thrown off. "What are you doing here?" Rosie felt a lump in her throat. "Are you breaking up with me?" She locked eyes with him, desperate to see even a tiny bit of second-guessing. But his totally blank, careless look just made her feel completely crushed. "Why?" Rosie couldn't take her eyes off him, unable to wrap her head around how he could say something like that. This was the guy who had picked her up and taken her home in a downpour, and who had literally run across town just to grab a dessert she casually mentioned. Every single birthday and anniversary, he'd set up some kind of sweet surprise, always making the exact same promise. "Rosie, I want to be with you forever." He used to say it like he truly, deeply meant it. She always thought that if they ever split up, it would be because things just fizzled out naturally, and they'd both walk away with their heads held high. Not like this—messy, embarrassing, and completely brutal. "Why?" Rosie said, clenching her jaw. "Just last month, you literally said you wanted to go public with us." Dylan looked away, sounding annoyed. "Rosie, everyone wants to move up in the world." Hearing that ice-cold tone absolutely stung. He'd said something similar so many times in the past. "Everyone wants to move up. One day I'm going to win Best Actor, and then I'll take you with me to live the best life." But now that he'd actually made it to the top, he just saw her as a dead weight and wanted to dump her like trash. Their fight started drawing a crowd, with the crew standing around just watching the drama unfold. Feeling the burning stare of dozens of eyes, Rosie couldn't take it anymore and bolted for the door. But she ran straight into Julia on the way out, hitting her pretty hard. She didn't stop, just picking up her pace to get out of there. By the time she got home looking a total mess, Rosie pulled out her phone only to find herself trending yet again. The whole thing started because of an apology video Julia had just posted. In the clip, she looked heartbroken. "I'm so sorry guys, but because of some issues, tonight's fan meeting is officially canceled..." Julia started tearing up and couldn't even finish her sentence, but gossip accounts picked up the story immediately and ran wild with it. They edited together the clip of Rosie confronting Dylan at the office with the security footage of her bumping into Julia. A: [Rosie must've been stalking and bugging Dylan, and then took her frustration out on Julia after getting dumped! She must be so bitter that Julia is working with Dylan again.] The second those gossip pages dropped the post, Julia's fans lost it, and Dylan's solo fans and their shippers were just as furious. The comment section turned into an absolute trainwreck overnight. People were screenshotting her photos and photoshopping them into funeral pictures, throwing around the nastiest insults. B: [How cheap and pathetic do you have to be to bully Julia? You're so toxic, no wonder Dylan wants nothing to do with you!] C: [Julia is a literal heiress to a filthy rich family. You're not even on her level, yet you're still trying to cling to Dylan?] D: [The rich heiress and the newly crowned Best Actor are a match made in heaven, okay? Take a look in the mirror! You're trash!] E: [While everyone's dragging her to shreds here, turns out Dylan's already made a super sweet official announcement with Julia!] Rosie's heart skipped a beat when she read that line, and she quickly tapped over to Julia's f*******:. Right there, pinned at the very top, was a photo of them locking fingers. From this day on, waking up and falling asleep next to you@Dylan This definitely wasn't just some PR stunt anymore. Staring at that picture, Rosie became completely pale and froze right where she stood. The exact same guy who was making promises to her a second ago had turned right around and gone public with someone else. Snapping out of it, she found her hand shaking as she dialed Dylan's number. He hung up, so she called again. She stubbornly kept ringing him over and over, until a sudden bank notification caught her totally off guard. $15,000 deposited into your account. Before she could even process it, a text from Dylan popped up. Dylan: Don't ever contact me again. And right after that, he blocked her. Staring at the text and that 15,000 dollars, Rosie collapsed onto the couch, her ears buzzing non-stop. Over the next couple of days, she tried to track Dylan down to get an answer, but she just got kicked out right at the company doors. To make things worse, Julia's fans recognized her and ended up dumping paint all over her. The bright red paint looked shockingly crimson and messy. Rosie had no choice but to walk all the way back home like that. The moment she got to her door, she saw a moving crew packing up and carrying out all of Dylan's stuff. "Move it!" Without even looking at her, the mover rudely shoved her out of the way. Staring at the whole ridiculous scene, Rosie just stood there and suddenly burst out laughing. Her five years... really just looked like a clown show with zero audience. Suddenly, her phone started buzzing. Rosie picked it up but hesitated. The call was coming from someone she hadn't seen in forever—her half-sister, Alice Wilson. Rosie took a deep breath before hitting Answer, trying her best to sound normal. "Hello?" Since they hadn't talked in years, Alice skipped the small talk and got straight to it. "Dad's in the hospital. He had a brain hemorrhage." Rosie froze, gripping her phone tighter. "What? Is he okay?" Alice's voice sounded sharp and icy. "Dad's in critical condition, and that woman is already using this chance to pack the company with her own people. It looks like she's trying to take over. I need you to come back and back me up." Rosie looked down, something dark and intense shifting in her eyes. She turned around and took a look at her apartment, which was a total disaster zone. Her voice came out steady and calm. "Alright."
