Chapter 4 The Future Suspicions

1316 Words
HENRY'S POV, Dad. I think that you should allow her to get a job. She really wants to do this, and since you owed her so much, you could see it as a compensating for all of your shortcomings. Henry, first of all, your mother doesn't need the money. Secondly, even her monthly allowance is almost five times more than the maximum salary she will get from that job. Why can't she just continue being what she has always been, a mother and a wife? It's noted that she was an outstanding intern, but that's all there's to her she doesn't have any experience outside of the internship program. He explained. Come on, Dad, it won't hurt to let her give it a shot. You let me work even though the current value of our fortune can last for three to four generations. I don't need the money and so do you, yet we have jobs. So let her do it, too. You can hire her at one of our company's branches. Alright, son, I will take it into consideration. Speaking of the company, this quarterly report from your end was not impressive at all. You got to work out some new innovations, and if you need help, just let me know. See you in the morning, buddy. Saturday morning at breakfast, my father gave her his permission to get a job with the condition of working either at his branch or mine. I knew she would choose mine rather than my father's. But I was surprised at her choice. "Jacob, I can't work at your place. Having you as my boss will be a pain in the ass. And neither can I work at Henry's. I already have enough of you two here at home. I can't have you interfering with my work. I want a neutral work environment. She said angrily and stood up, ready to leave. Nevertheless, Dad response worsened her mood. As he said, "Harriet, just admit that you have an ulterior motives. You are seeking a means to fool around. Isn't that the reason you don't want either of us around? Well, I've got to go now! I'm getting late for my workout session. I lie, not wanting to get engulfed in whatever they were about to start. I don't know how their discussion ended, but on that Monday morning, my Mom was at the office among the batch of employees who needed to undergo the two months of affiliate marketing programs. I was surprised when I saw her name as one of my trainees. But I thought maybe she wanted to surprise me. Probably her statement on Saturday was a mare joke after all. As she walked in, I stood up to greet her. Welcome on to the team, Mrs Harriet Smith. I will be your mentor for the next two months. I'm looking forward to having a great time with you. I said with a smile. But the smile on her face faded immediately. "There must be some sort of mistake. I will just check the other teams." She said, turning around to leave. Wait up Mom your name is right here on my list. I told her. She turned back and said, So, you knew about it from the beginning, and you accepted it even though I made myself clear that I never wanted to do it? If there's no other team to get me transferred to, I would rather sit home. She said and then left. Why does she hate being around me this much? Whenever we are alone, I can see the fear in her. Is she afraid that I might hurt her, or is there another reason? I rang and he answered. Dad, why did you insist that mom get her training done by me? Thanks for the compliments, I know that I am one of the best at that, but not with Mom. I know that is our policy, but you manipulated that policy. It's true you did, Dad. I asked HR to make the changes, but he said that the order came from you and that only you can reassign her. You got to change. I can't tutor Mom. Please, Dad... "Henry, it's true that I did order that. But I did it with a clear conscience. Lately, I've come to observe that you two are drifting apart, so working together for that period of time will bring closer again. You should be thanking me because I did you a favor. He continued, I listened to you almost every night in distress, the company is not doing no good your girlfriend broke up with you and many others. Your mother has always handled your issues, so I won't stop until you two settle things. I have to clients waiting if you don't mind. The doctor called me to tell me that my results were ready. Days ago, after I stumbled upon that DNA results, it kept bugging me. Why would my mother want a DNA test of me and my father? Also for the fact her resentment for me kept growing every day. I developed this theory that maybe I was one of my father's mistresses son. So, I ordered a DNA test. Now, the result was here. But I couldn't gather the courage to unveil it. If she wasn't my birth mother, it would make more sense why I felt this way about her, and if she was indeed my birth mother, how would I ever get over that despicable act? I would be the first son to commit such indecent act. That night, I came home very late and drunk, hoping that they wouldn't notice. As usual, the two of them were arguing again. I couldn't help but eavesdrop on their conversation. I heard her saying, "Jacob, I owe you no explanation on why I don't want to work alongside Henry. All I'm telling you is to have me assigned in another department. But if you refuse, I won't bother you again. I will take the job, but don't say I didn't warn you. Whatever happens, you should know that it's all your fault." She told him. I lay in my bed the next day, not wanting to have anything to do with the people of this world. If the one person I had always seen as flawless was a total deceived, what more about the rest of mankind? But it was not too long when she came knocking on my door. I let her in, yet I didn't want to see her nor talk to her. She entered, looking more lively and glowing as the ray of sunshine splash on her through openings in the curtains. Good morning dear. She greeted and started her sermon. Sweetie, I made your favorite soup just the way you love it. The help told me that you came in drunk very late last night. So is there something going on? Henry, are you angry with me? Anyway, I want you to know that I have accepted to be on your team, and I am looking forward to us making the most of it. I also.. Do you realize that the door is locked and it would take very loud screams to get anyone attention? Aren't you afraid that I might try taking advantage of you in here? I interrupted her. "What the heck is wrong with Henry? Where are your manners? I am your mother, and you got to talk to me with due diligence." She warned me, but I didn't give a dammed. Oh, please, Mrs Smith, come off with the pretense. You and I know that you are not my mother. This statement got her shaking with fear. She became frightened yet, she calmly replied, "I will just come to back when you're in a better shape. Drink your soup for now."
