DAMIEN The ground beneath Damien’s boots pulsed like a living thing, veins of molten fire crawling beneath obsidian stone. The air was thick, metallic, heavy with the scent of ancient blood and burned promises. close enough to distract, not far enough to forget. He walked until the throne chamber opened before him. Massive pillars carved with symbols older than time itself rose toward a ceiling lost in darkness. At the center sat Posadese. Ruler of all witches.Judge of bloodlines. Executioner of destinies.Damien dropped to one knee, lowering his head in submission. “I come with important news, my Lord.” Posadese did not move. His presence alone bent reality, shadows curling toward him like loyal servants. Finally, one long finger lifted, gesturing him to speak.Damien swallowed. “I believe I know where little James is.” The temperature dropped. “Dead,” Posadese said flatly “No, my Lord,” Damien replied quickly. “Mrs. Carrington must have placed a concealment spell. A powerful one. One meant to erase him from our sight,so completely that even we believed he didn’t exist.” Posadese leaned forward slowly, interest igniting behind his eyes. “But he lives,” he said. “On Earth.” “Yes,together with her.” Silence pressed down like a weight. “How did you find him?” Posadese asked. Damien lifted his head. “Safire Miraya. She sought shelter there. I followed her trail and found them.” The name carried power. The chamber trembled faintly. “We cannot let him turn twenty-five,” Posadese said, rising from his throne. Flames erupted along the walls. “You hunt tomorrow,” he commanded. “You do not return without him. Find him, even if it means destroying Earth itself.” Damien bowed deeply. “As you command, my Lord.” STELLA I was so late for work.My heels struck the pavement faster than my thoughts could catch up, but nothing helped. The memories followed me relentlessly,James’s hands, his mouth, the way my body responded before my mind could stop it. I hated him.I repeated it like a prayer. So why had I kissed him back? The office doors slid open, and the air inside felt colder immediately. Arthur stood by his desk. “Oh my days,I thought something happened to you too” I said in relief “Just one day,” he said sharply, “one day I’m unavailable, and you do whatever you like?” “I…” “Remind me again,” he interrupted, “what’s your resumption time?” My throat tightened. Words refused to come out right. “I… I’m sorry. I..I..” He sighed harshly, leaning back in his chair, pushing a pile of files toward me without looking at my face. “Work.” I gathered them silently and walked to my desk. My eyes burned.I stared at the screen until the tears threatened to spill. ARTHUR I don’t know why I sounded like that. The words came out sharp, colder than I intended. she looked like she was already carrying too much or going through something,I don't know . there's no excuse for being late, feelings weren’t an excuse. Why do I even care? I glanced at her again. She was seated at her desk now, shoulders stiff, eyes fixed on her laptop. The screen reflected faintly in her eyes, and I caught the shine there, the kind that comes right before tears fall.I sighed quietly, rubbing a hand over my face. This wasn’t about her. It was never about her. It was Zina. The memory burned fresh, her voice, her confidence, the way she’d thought she had me wrapped around her finger. The audacity of it still made my jaw tighten. I can’t believe that b***h thought…. I pushed the thought away and stood up abruptly. “Over here.” The words were firm. Neutral. She lifted her head, startled, confusion flickering across her face. Her eyes met mine for a brief second before dropping again. “I need my tie knotted,” I said. “I have a meeting.” She hesitated, then stood. She walked toward me slowly, carefully, as if every step needed permission. She still didn’t look at me. Her gaze stayed fixed somewhere near my chest, deliberately avoiding my eyes.Good or maybe not. She stopped in front of me, close enough that I noticed things I shouldn’t have, her eyes were pretty, the way she bit the corner of her lips, the faint scent of her perfume, soft and warm, something floral. Her fingers reached for the tie, trembling. She worked quietly, methodically, her movements precise. The room felt smaller suddenly, the air heavier. I could feel her breath every time she leaned in closer, warm against my collarbone. I swallowed. Her knuckles brushed my chest accidentally. She froze, not pulling away. For half a second too long, her hands stayed where they were, pressed lightly against me. I could feel the rapid beat of her pulse through her fingertips. My own breath slowed. Her lashes fluttered as she finally lifted her eyes. And for a moment, neither of us moved. She stepped back breaking the eye contact “Done” “You smell nice,” I blurted out. The words surprised even me. She didn’t respond, her face blank like she’d locked something deep inside herself. “Get back to work”I mouthed JAMES The basketball court was supposed to clear my head.It didn’t. Every bounce of the ball echoed her name. Stella. Her lips, her eyes, the way she ran from me like I was something dangerous. “Bro,” Jackson said, dribbling beside me, “what’s the plan? You don’t wanna, like… take a job or something?” “Nah,” I replied, shooting. “I don’t take commands. Not my thing.” He laughed. “What’s the point anyway? If you needed all the money in the world today, you’d get it with ease.” I smirked. “Exactly.” “Your family’s almost the wealthiest in the city. Vice-president type shii.” “Almost?” I repeated. “Yeah,” he shrugged. “Haven’t you heard of Salvatore? That guy’s fireee, self-made. Never even talk about family.” Something twisted in my chest. “Overhyped,” I muttered. He grinned. “Jealous?” I didn’t answer. I pushed the ball forward. The sky turned red almost immediately. A violent crimson spread across the clouds, swallowing the sun whole. Screams erupted. People dropped their bags, their phones, their lives, running in every direction. “What the hell?” Jackson muttered, already backing away.I stepped forward,I wanted to see what was happening. Jackson ran…. I packed my bag and walked calmly toward my car while the world unraveled around me. People crashed into each other, sirens wailed and panic . “Unbelievable,” I muttered. I stopped in front of my car, catching my reflection in the window. My eyes were blue this time, sometimes I don't even know the color of my eyes.My eyes caught a familiar figure from the mirror.I turned sharply. “Don’t even try.” He vanished. He dropped from above, slamming me into the ground. Concrete shattered beneath us like glass. Something inside me broke open. I surged upward, bursting through the cracked floor, slamming into him with a force that shocked even me. I grabbed his neck and hurled him into a wall, again and again ... .I slammed him on every surface.Blood poured from his nose, his mouth, his eyes. “I didn’t know you could bleed,” I said coldly. I slammed him into the ground. He didn’t move. I turned towards my car… Sharp pain pierced my neck.Darts. One. Two. Three. More. My limbs went numb. Voices surrounded me,female, chanting, ancient. “Heli heli seli deli..” “Mrli meli helu helaai” My knees gave out. Darkness swallowed me whole.
