Chapter 12I charged through the night, the wind whipping at my face, tongue lolling out of the side of my mouth. It felt good to be alive, to be away from that house. Still, I knew what I had done: forever closed the doors to a life with the pack. Sealed it shut. Cemented it and Krazy Glued the keyhole. Okay, so maybe it didn’t feel all that great to be alive, after all. A short while later, I was standing on four legs below my busted-out window. I pawed at the cement until Mitzy shot her head out. “Please tell me this is a good thing,” she whispered, just loud enough for me alone to hear. I nodded. “This is a good thing,” I whispered back. “Really?” She looked hopeful. Too bad, right? “Um, not really,” I replied. “But at least no one got hurt.” Besides a rather large deer.” She sigh
