When we walked into the reception with Alan and his wife Joan, the entire room was loud with talk and laughter. An older man came up to Alan and shook his hand. They talked and he shook Joan’s hand to congratulate her. Alan turned to me. “Dean Miller, our guest conductor, Shelby Flynn.
