"ANSWER Me!"

“Wait, where is Kate? I hope she’s fine. Please tell me she’s okay.”

“She’s fine, my love. We were together when everything happened. She went to help the others hide in the basement. It’s safe there. I checked it myself. That’s where we were supposed to go, but the way is blocked by those criminals and the many patients who were injected with a dangerous drug that makes them go crazy for 24 hours.”

“But don’t worry. Not everywhere is locked down. There’s a helicopter at the top of the building. Some people managed to escape before this whole place was locked down.”

Raymond explained that the research center was built almost like a small estate. There were small houses for the workers and even a little store where they could buy basic things. When the lockdown began, an invisible security fence surrounded the entire facility. People could still move around inside, but nobody could enter or leave.

The place was highly developed and heavily secured.

“We should get moving.”

“Wait…”

Lisa looked puzzled.

“What happened?”

“Take this. You haven’t had anything this morning, and it’s about 9 a.m. now. I’m not going to let you and my child starve because of this situation.”

He handed her some food.

Lisa smiled as she began to eat. She couldn't help wondering when he had packed the food because she hadn't even seen him doing it.

“You eat something too. You can’t protect me and our baby with an empty stomach. I know you haven’t eaten anything yet. We both need our strength if we want to survive this. Eat.”

Only then did Raymond eat.

After they finished, they began their journey toward the top of the building. Going back down was not an option.

When they reached the elevator, they saw several patients standing there with guns, guarding it.

“Stay here. I’ll go deal with them. Don’t make any sound,” he whispered into her ear.

“But why don’t we just take the stairs instead? I don’t want you getting hurt,” she pleaded.

Raymond simply turned toward her with a lovely smile.

“And why would any man in his right mind let his pregnant wife go through any unnecessary stress? I know I wouldn’t. So stop worrying. I know what I’m doing. Now stay put, babe.”

Lisa was surprised by how calm he was in such a dangerous situation. Somehow, he could still say such lovely things to her.

She couldn't help but smile.

How lucky I am to have him as my husband.

She hid somewhere so she wouldn't become a burden to him, even though she knew she could help. But she also knew her husband liked to play the hero, so she let him.

Within seconds, Raymond was done with them.

They quickly entered the elevator. Lisa pulled out her gun and faced the door in case anyone was waiting for them.

To her surprise, no one was there.

They successfully made their way to the top floor.

But as they continued, they suddenly sensed that someone was following them.

“Love, do you feel it?”

“Yes. They’re about six of them. Two are on the ceiling, one is on the left and another on the right, while the last one is farther away from us. And they’re all armed,” Lisa told him.

Raymond simply smiled.

“Right. So, who are you taking out?”

Lisa was shocked that he had asked her.

He had been extremely protective of her since the beginning, but now he was finally letting her take action.

She was happy about it.

“I’ll take the ones on top and the one on the left.”

“Fine. Let’s do this, and be careful.”

“I know. Don’t tell me.”

She quickly moved behind him and disappeared into the shadows, confusing the men who were following them.

Before the man above could see her, she shot him from below with her silenced gun.

The second man noticed her, but before he could draw his weapon, she had already shot him.

She quickly moved toward him and struck him on the head, knocking him unconscious.

Instead of leaving him behind, she dragged him with her.

She needed him alive so they could get information about what was happening in the hospital.

When she returned, she immediately went to her husband to check if he was alright. Raymond did the same.

“I knew you weren’t going to leave one alive, so I had to save one to get information from him, you dum-dum,” she said.

“I knew you would save one, but don’t worry. I saved one too, just in case one of them refused to talk.”

He smiled at her.

Before he could hug her, Lisa noticed one of the men they thought was dead trying to shoot Raymond.

Before she could fire, someone shot the man from behind her.

Lisa immediately checked Raymond to make sure he hadn't been hit.

Thankfully, he was fine.

She was extremely grateful to whoever had saved him.

Then she turned around.

Her eyes widened.

It was Jason, her husband’s best friend. They worked in the same field and had worked alongside each other for years.

And beside him was Kate—the very person Lisa had been so worried about.

Lisa immediately ran toward Kate and hugged her.

Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks.

They both cried in each other's arms while the men caught up with them and checked to make sure none of the attackers were still following them.

After their emotional reunion, they decided to interrogate the men they had captured.

They found a small room and tied the men up with some chains they found.

Jason and Raymond decided they would do the interrogation themselves because they knew Lisa and Kate could be brutal when they wanted answers.

As Lisa was about to sit down, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her abdomen.

She held her breath, trying not to make a sound so Raymond wouldn't notice.

But somehow, he always knew when she was in pain.

He immediately rushed toward her.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m fine. It’s just normal pain. I’ll be fine. It happens during pregnancy. It’s normal, so don’t worry. Focus on the things at hand now.”

She had told him the truth and a lie at the same time.

She knew her own body. She believed it was probably just the stress.

Raymond immediately reminded her, “I don’t care about what’s happening right now. All I need to focus on is you, babe, not those idiots.”

“For the last time, babe, I’m fine. It’s not like it’s my first time getting pregnant. Now stop being so persistent and help Jason out. Besides, I have Kate too.”

It was only after hearing that that Raymond finally left to help Jason.

As soon as he was gone, Lisa's expression changed from happiness to pain.

“Lisa, breathe. Are you okay? Should I call Ray—”

“No… don’t,” Lisa quickly cut her off.

“I don’t want him to worry. Just check my bag. You’ll see some pain-relief medication in it. They’re the red ones.”

Kate found the medication and gave it to her.

After taking it, Lisa felt the pain gradually ease.

She then went to see how Raymond and Jason were doing.

As she entered the room, she saw blood all over the floor.

She felt like throwing up, but she forced herself to hold it back.

She continued walking.

Then she heard screams coming from inside.

“I’ll talk! Please, don’t kill me! I beg of you. I only followed the boss’s orders!”

One of the men finally spoke.

The other man was being held in a separate room.

“Talk. Who is this boss of yours? And why would he come here of all places? What does he want? Answer me!”

Lisa was fed up.

She wanted answers.

She wanted to know who could be so heartless as to destroy a place built to help people—and kill innocent people for no reason.

Then the man finally looked at her And Lisa waited for his answer.
