AS THEY APPROACHED Jaka, Akshara noticed there were no walls around the city. Instead, bright torches stretched in all directions. “The people of Jaka keep these torches lit at all times, because they believe if one of them goes out, the whole city will just disappear, swallowed up by the night,” said Erevia. “I’m sure one of the torches has gone out before,” Akshara said, doubting the ability of Jaka’s citizens to keep watch over every single fire at all times. There were no guards, so Erevia and Akshara just walked right into the city. As Akshara looked around, she immediately noticed that one thing that every city should have was missing. “Where’s the temple?” “So many questions...” Erevia said. “Learn to see the answers for yourself. That’s a skill you’re going to need eventually.
