We stopped at the pharmacy first, and once I had the EpiPen in the mini drawstring backpack the pharmacist was so kind as to provide and slung it over my shoulder, we were ready to leave.
Even though I’d been in the hospital for less than twenty-four hours, I was glad to walk through the doors and out into the May sunshine. Hyde insisted on carrying my duffel, and he tossed it onto the backseat.
We got in the SUV, and I put the backpack on the floor by my feet. After buckling up, I sat fiddling with the radio—if he was taking me for better or worse, he’d have to take me for changing the radio station as well. There was a slight grin on his face as he eased out of the parking lot and onto the road that would take us to Silver Birch.
