“Sierra-Six, status update?” Mark called into his mike.
Silence, then, “This is Sierra-Seven. Sierra-Six is down. Medics on site. Barn and occupants are secure.”
Mark was shaken to hear that Captain Smith had been hit, but recovered quickly. “Get those ambulances and doctors over there right now!” he shouted. After issuing instructions to the rest of his team, he ran all the way to the barn. As he arrived the medical team was loading a stretcher into one of the ambulances.
The man’s face was covered by an oxygen mask but he still recognized Captain Smith. “How is he?” he asked one of the doctors.
“Took three close-range AK rounds to his vest,” the doctor replied. “A couple of broken ribs, one of which punctured his right lung.”
“Will he make it?” Mark asked with concern.
