Chapter #7: Inspired to Change Things

732 Words
***Back at Sarah’s apartment, The next day*** It was around 7:00am that Keiji’s alarm blaringly went off. He quickly snoozed it, so as to not wake Sarah, George and Hita. Making up his bed, he got ready and made his way to the kitchen. It had been agreed upon by the team that George and Hita stay and sleep in the living room for the time being – until this whole mess with Zeta society was over. Quietly, he made himself some breakfast with orange juice. Taking less than ten minutes to eat, Keiji gave one last look to the living room and Sarah’s apartment before leaving and locking the door. Heading down the hallway now, 4 doors down, he knocked on the cabin door – the room where Duke, Ricky, and Hella were staying. A moment later, the door clicked open and revealing Ricky. “Hey mate, I’ve just woken up. Give me a quick 15 minutes to eat and shower, and we’ll be on our way,” Ricky said. “Sure thing Ricky,” Keiji said. “You can have a seat at the kitchen table while waiting,” Ricky said as he left Keiji’s company to shower. Keiji took a moment to look around. This was his first time in their apartment. Duke had mentioned that Hella was the one who organized everything. From what Keiji could see, she had done a great job at that. Everything was neat and tidy, with more space for walking around than Sarah’s apartment; Keiji noticed. The entire layout of the cabin/apartment however was the same for the entire building. The only things that were different were the types of furniture that Hella had chosen to decorate with. As Keiji took a seat in the kitchen, he patiently waited. Not ten minutes later did Ricky come back. “Let me eat first mate,” Ricky said as he poured himself a cup of coffee and cereal. As Ricky ate, Keiji, browsed his communicator. “So how are you feeling mate?” “With what?” Keiji asked. “With how things panned out for us back at the hospital,” Ricky said. “I’m guessing that was the first time you’ve been outplayed.” “Yeah….” Keiji said. “From what I’ve seen, your better than that. A few weeks ago, when we were facing the Warriors, you lead well,” Ricky said. “Don’t let the first blunder get to you.” “Yeah….” Keiji said as he thought to himself. Ricky was right. But it was going to take more than that to best Stryker. “It’s just that, Stryker seems as smart as I am. And we’re going to have to think a lot of steps ahead of him if we’re going to beat him.” “I agree mate, but we all know your good at that too,” Ricky said as he finished his cereal and started on his coffee. “Any advice?” Keiji said. “Look at your motivations,” Ricky said. “They’ll be what allows you to push past your failings.” “My motivations…” Keiji said. “Well, know I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve always been inspired to change things – especially during my first years as a light levels analyst. See, myself and Sarah had always been explorers at heart, and we felt stagnant on earth. So, using our talents, we applied for the light levels analyst job so that we could change things. But now, since having my powers, I feel even more empowered to influence things. I don’t take it as my responsibility to do so….rather it comes from my own sense of justice to help unjust things. That’s why I was so motivated to stop the warriors……and I’m glad you all came along for the ride.” Taking a bit of time to sip his coffee, Ricky nodded and then finally spoke up as well. “That’s why your leading us mate,” Ricky said. “I may have not gotten along with you at the start of things….but take it from me, you’re the real deal.” “Thanks Ricky,” Keiji said with a smile. “No problem mate, now lets head on over to the president’s office,” Ricky said.
