CHAPTER 12

Deianira

As soon as Yutu and Tarkik walk out with all of us the tension grows thicker. Tar's eyes immediately find mine. Regret in his caramel eyes, well until his eyes find Leith's hand in mine. When he looks back at me they are as black as coals. His demeanor changes and he lunges for us. His father catches him by his shirt, "What is the meaning of this Deianira. My son banished you after all then you spit in his face by allowing another man to accompany you to his home. All the years we have all known you its like we don't know you at all." Leith tenses beside me ready to come to my defense but I beat him to it. "Chief this is my home, Tarkik rejected me for no reason at all. The Gods blessed me with a second chance, for that I am grateful. He did what your son could not, accept me. Maybe one day he will love me like I once thought your son had. Tarkik vibrates with anger beside his father. He's anger only fuels me to carry on. "I only came here out of respect for you all, to ask to visit my friends and my parents. I wont come near you or your son. I only ask to at least give all of my loved ones a proper goodbye if that's all I'm allowed." "What part of banishment did you not understand, we are doing this all for a reason.." "And what is this reason Yutu, you have been a second father to me. How could you do this to me. How could your son?" Said son uses this opportunity to lunge for me again. He goes to wrap his hand around my neck but Leith stops him, backhands him to the ground. As he deserves. "Don't touch my mate." That enrages Tarkik once more and he then pounces on Leith. They fight broodily and bloody. Everyone lunges. We are all trying to pull them off of one another. Somehow my father gets in between my two mates but Tarkik is so fueled with anger so mad he doesn't register its my father. At least I think he doesn't. He wraps his hands around my fathers neck and twists... He snaps his neck and my father falls to the ground. Everyone stops. My mother screams or maybe its a mix of both her and I. "NO" I scramble over to my father. I drop to my knees. I don't register anyone around me. Only my fathers lifeless eyes staring back at me. This changes everything. I thought I could get through to Tarkik but not now. Not after this. I don't even recognize my voice as I speak, " Tarkik of Martimus you have betrayed me for the last time. This is beyond a betrayal. You and I are no more. I reject you as my mate. I will have my vengeance." I raise my hand and smack it to the ground. As I do he smacks upon the dirt along with it. His eyes widen " No De you don't understand I am sorry please." Eyes back caramel but I don't care. He killed my father I must have revenge. I stand. "NO please Deianira he's cursed you have to believe me please you know Tarkik wouldn't do this not him. Its the demon he has in him. Our whole bloodline was cursed for our ancestors doing please spare my son. I will lock him up until I figure out a way to keep this beast inside him locked down." That gives me pause but very little. As I contemplate what to say I watch my mother cradle my father in her arms as she sobs and wails. My heart completely shatters. Along with my heart something else disappears and that's when I feel it. All this power inside me. A well overflowing. "De De your eyes are glowing," Apaay says. I look at her and then at Leith. He nods and goes to stand beside me. To show me he has my back. Whatever decision I make he will stand beside me I know it. I watch Yutu tie some type of ropes around Tarkik. I guess its to trap the demon. Good, if he hurts anyone else I love I will kill him. "I'm leaving, I will never return." I say. "NO" Apaay and mother say. Tarkik even gives a weak attempt at a plea. I turn to him, he's still himself but I don't care. " You think you get any choice in what I do or don't do, I hate you. I wished I never met you. I wont let you be the end of me or my family. That demon inside you will pay for what he's done this I'm sure of. You hear me you sulfur smelling asshole I will destroy you." His eyes turn black again once more and he laughs. He laughs this evil laugh that makes my skin crawl. "You think you can defeat me. You wont you will fail and I will consume you. You and that tiny creature in your stomach." What?!?! I cradle my stomach and look down. How Leith and I we .. No no no no When Tarkik and I I'm pregnant?? Its all to much a back away a bit. As I do Leith comes up and punches Tarkik well the demon right now in his jaw, knocking him out cold. The laughter finally ceases and everyone has a look of shock on their face. "Deianira," Ahnah says "You must go before he wakes. Now that he knows your with child he wont ever stop. Rejection between the two of you means nothing now. Even if he didn't mark you the act you committed ties you both together forever more. Its how it works." I look to mother for conformation and she nods still teary eyed. "If we are bound together now we have to find a way to break the curse. We have to keep my baby safe." "There is no way I have tried." Yutu says. "I will find a way, not for Tarkik but for my child. For my father, I will kill this beast and curse once and for all." "I'm coming with you," both mother and Apaay say. "What about your mother and your siblings Apaay you cant leave them. They need you." "You need me" she says. "I love you Apaay I will always need you but you are needed here more." She knows I'm right by the look on her face. She hugs me tight. I turn to mother "You cant come with me either, you have things you need to do here you have to give father a proper burial." I choke out, tears flowing freely down my face. I sit down beside her and hug both her and father as tight as I can. I kiss his forehead, "I love you mother. I'm so sorry. This is all my fault I shouldn't have come back. He would be okay, none of this would have happened." "No this isn't your fault Deianira you hear me, its his." She points at Tarkik's form lying awkwardly on the ground. " You go find a way to break this curse just please come back to me. Bring my grandchild back safe." She puts a hand on my stomach. "I will, I will seek requital." I stand and walk over to Leith. "You with me?" I say. "Always love" he says. We turn and we walk away....
