As days went by, everything was turning out perfectly. At first, I was still wary and didn’t leave Coda a lot with Ace but with time, I saw Ace changing for the better and truly falling in love with his son. He told me that he has a girlfriend who changed him and he is going to do anything it takes for him to be there when our son grows up. Which means a lot. With our circumstances, it’s no wonder we ended up in this position but right now everything is good and I hope with all my heart Ace can learn to be the father Coda needs.
It’s been months since the night Coda ran away and I still couldn’t see Jace again. I know that he has nothing to do with this and I’m being a b***h about this but after all that my son had to go through since Jace came into our lives, I don’t feel comfortable yet. After that night, I haven’t seen him once. Ace tells me that he is doing his best knowing where I’m coming from. Even if I love him, I know he deserves something more than what I can give him. I notice Coda always looks behind Ace when he arrives to see if someone is behind him, he misses Jace as well.
Sometimes I end up thinking that, that night at the party, I ended up with Ace for a reason. First, I gave birth to my son, who is a gift from God, but also that it was the fate for me to meet Jace.
" I think you should give him a chance Iris,” Lana said watching as Ace played with Coda.
I shook my head. ” I don’t know why I’m thinking that its better this way for him.”
" Let him decide that Iris.” She said sighing.
It’s Christmas time and everywhere is filled with snow and songs are being played everywhere.
Coda has another recital and he is the opening and closing act.
I smiled as Ace fell and Coda jumped on him.
" He’s doing well. Ace I mean.” Lana said smiling at me.
I nodded. ” I think it was for the best that he found out when he did. He grew up to be an amazing man, even if it was all for Claire.”
" Claire?” Lana asked.
" His girlfriend.”
She nodded and looked back at them.
They waved at us and continued to play.
" Did you meet with her ?”
" A couple of times, she’s amazing and she cares for Coda too.”
It’s hard for me to think that there is another woman figure into my son’s life but with Claire I find it calming, she is the nicest person anyone could ever meet and she respects my boundaries and never steps out of line.
" It must be hard huh?” Lana said.
I shook my head softly. ” At first, it was confusing but to be honest, I’m glad that Ace found someone like her. She is amazing and it explains a lot of why Ace changed so much.”
She chuckled.
Ace and Coda came back to our table.
Coda sat on me and Ace dropped on the chair tired.
" Your little man is an infinite pool of energy.”
Coda smiled and nodded.
" About Christmas, are we doing it at your place ?” Ace asked.
I nodded. ” Is it okay for Claire ?”
He smiled. ” Yeah.”
Ace looked at me for a second.
" What ?”
He sighed. ” What about Jace?”
I looked down at my tea.
Coda put his small hand on mine patting it.
" I’ll think about it.”
Ace was about to say something but nodded.
"Oh, I almost forgot. My parents want to meet Coda. They only saw him through pictures.”
Oh crap. Forgot about his parents.
" Yeah sure. See when they are free and I’ll go somewhere until you are ready.”
He rubbed his cheek.
" They actually want to meet you as well.”
I almost choked into my tea.
Meeting his parents?
I have to meet my son’s father’s parents but also the parent’s of the man I am in love with, which I am avoiding.
" I don’t think it’s really a good idea.”
He sighed and nodded. ” I knew you would say that. Think about it, if you think that it’s okay. How about I bring them to the recital and after at your place for the party?”
I blinked at him. ” You already told them didn’t you?”
He grinned. ” Yeah.”
I almost hit my head with my hand.
" I knew it.”
He scooted closer and put his hand on mine.
" It will be fine Iris.”
His phone starting ringing so he excused himself and went to answer his phone.
Great.
This is going to be the most humiliating Christmas of my life.

Coda was practising for the recital, so I waiting outside sitting on the cold floor.
Ace told me that his parents are flying today.
Christmas is next week and I don’t know what I’m going to do.
I was so deep in thought that I didn’t notice someone approaching.
When I looked up, two beautiful eyes looked down at me.
I know those eyes anywhere.
" Jace,” I said breathlessly.
I can’t imagine how this man gets more beautiful every time I see him.
He smiled softly and offered his hand.
I took it and he pulled me up.
" What are you doing out in this cold ?”
His voice melted every frozen part of me.
" Waiting for Coda.”
He looked at the doors and nodded.
" The recital is coming up.”
I nodded and he smiled.
He was about to turn and leave but I grabbed his hand.
I couldn’t look into his eyes so I looked down at my feet.
" Jace.”
He turned but I didn’t leave his hand.
" I’ve been nothing but a b***h to you and for that, I’m so sorry.”
He sighed and pulled me to him. My face was into his chest and I could hear his heart beating as loud as mine.
" Didn’t I tell you that no matter what, you are the love of my life?”
My eyes stung.
" Even after all that I had done?”
He kissed my head.
" You had so many reasons to and even if you put me through hell, I would walk in lava if it means I could spend at least 5 minutes with you.”
My eyes started to water and I hugged him to me.
" I know that you love me but you always care for your son and you don’t care about yourself. Even if you get torn to pieces you would protect your son with your life. That’s what made me fall in love with you. You are so beautiful but when you are near your son, you are like the oxygen I need to breathe.”
He pulled me to him and kissed my forehead.
" You have no idea, how much I love you. And I love your son as well, I know that I’m not his father but I really wish I could be in his life in any way possible. But mostly that I could be in your life and love you, like you deserve to be loved.”
I looked up at him and he leaned in to kiss me.
" I love you, Jace , so much. I don’t deserve you.”
He smiled and kissed my nose.
" Even if you say that, I am the only one for you, like you are the only one for me.”
I cried and he hugged me closer and closer to him, whispering loving words into my ear.
After all, I did to him, after all the pain I put him through he still loves me.
And I think after all this, I have my answer.
Jace is the person I’m willing to die for as well.
He loves my son and he cares for him like he was his own.
Being with Jace will make me grow into a better person but also into a better mother.
