Chapter 6

Weeks went by from my first date with Jace. I didn’t have the chance to give him a call, but to very honest, I was scared. The way he makes me feel is on a whole new level than one should feel on a first date. But it wasn’t only that, that made me not call. Coda got sick, really sick and I was going crazy trying my best to make his fever go down. Somehow because of this, the urge to call him got worse, I’m sure he would know what to say to calm me down. But in the end, I didn’t call.

" Coda! We are late.” I yelled going around the kitchen to make his lunch.

I heard small footsteps running around, he probably woke up late as well.

I guess it runs in the family.

When he came into the kitchen he had his bag open for his lunch and I grabbed everything and placed it in his bag. I ruffled his head.

Then I stopped, knelt down and put my forehead with his.

" No fever?”

He shook his head softly and smiled.

I kissed his forehead and grabbed his hand.

When I opened the door, I had to hold on to the wall, cause I would have fallen on Coda.

" Hey,” Jace said smiling.

Coda came from behind me and jumped on Jace.

" Hey, little man.”

I couldn’t say a word.

He looked tired and he let his beard grow.

How the hell can anyone look this handsome?

" Need a ride?” He asked.

I shook my head.

" It’s okay.” I closed the door behind me and locked it.

" Come on, you’re late.” He said.

I sighed and nodded.

When we dropped Coda off, he didn’t let me get out of the car.

I took a breath.

" I’m sorr-”

He pulled my face to his and kissed me softly.

" I actually thought something happened to you. I wasn’t the only one who feels this way right?”

I shook my head.

He kissed me softly again.

" I’m sorry but Coda got sick and he will always be my first priority.”

He nodded and kissed my forehead.

" I knew that from the first time I laid eyes on you.”

" How?”

" Your cart was full of healthy ingredients, at first I thought that she just likes to keep healthy but then I saw you with your kid I got it. Only a very good parent would go into all that trouble to see all the nutrients a kid needs.”

I shook my head.

" It’s a parent thing.”

He nodded.

“That’s why , I knew that if I got your attention , I would always be second place and I wouldn’t mind.”

" You got my attention immediately, did you look at yourself?” I said pulling my eyebrow up.

He chuckled and kissed my nose.

" I saw you.”

I snorted.

" I’m crap, actually I don’t know why you like me.”

He furrowed his eyebrows.

" Do you know how many guys look at you when you walk?”

I snorted again.

He shook his head.

" How about that second date?” He asked.

There are thousands of reasons why I shouldn’t accept it but -

" You always put up a wall around yourself but you can’t fight the feelings we have for each other Iris.”

He almost read my mind.

I smiled and nodded.

" There you go. And Iris I will help in any way possible with Coda. That son of yours is an angel from heaven.” He said waving his hand.

" That’s what everyone says.” I laughed.

" That means he really is.”

I nodded and smiled.

He started the car and we went on a very amazing second date.

From that day on, Jace kept picking us up and taking Coda to school, we would go on a date and then we would go get Coda. Sometimes I wondered if he really got a job. He laughed and said that he’s on a break. I laugh so much when I’m with him it seems almost surreal. Things like this never happen to me, especially after Coda was born, he was always my top priority and I never really looked at anything else. But Jace understands this and when Coda really needs my attention he backs off without an explanation. He is really amazing and Coda really seems to like him. That’s what really worries me. If it just me that gets heartbroken than it’s not a problem but if my son get’s heartbroken my world would crumble. Davina told me that I’m too clingy on my son but Jace told me that it’s normal for a mother to be his way. When his brother was born his mother was super clingy on him and with time it got better.

" So your friends want to meet me?” Jace said playing with my hair as we lay on the sofa waiting for Coda to finish school.

"Yep, tonight.”

" Crap.”

I chuckled and cupped his face.

" Everything will be fine, just be your amazing self and they will adore you.”

He put his hands on mine and kissed them.

" I hope.”

" Oh and be prepared to be r***d from them also.”

His eyes went wide and I burst into laughter.

He smiled and tickled me, pulling me closer.

" So I just have to stay here till tonight?” He said kissing my neck.

" Seems so.”

" Not a bad compromise.”

I chuckled.

He seemed a bit anxious but he didn’t waver.

We went to get Coda and he was thrilled that the others are coming over.

In fact, he kept running around cleaning everything.

Jace laughed but ended up helping him.

"Coda got to get a bath and dress up.”

He nodded and ran to the bathroom.

I sighed.

Jace came from behind me and rubbed my shoulders.

" What’s wrong?”

" Sometimes I wonder if the piano is the only thing that kids thinks about.” I chuckled.

" The piano?”

I nodded. ” Blaine, Davina’s boyfriend, always teaches him something new when he comes and he is absolutely obsessed with him.”

" That’s a good thing right? It means he goes well with everyone.”

I smiled and kissed his hand.

I placed my hand on the piano and played a key.

" How long since you played a song for yourself?” Jace said coming near me.

" So long.”

" Then do it.” He kissed my cheek.

I sighed and closed my eyes.

The notes flowed through my fingers to the keys.

I didn’t notice I was finished until a small hand grabbed mine.

When I opened my eyes Coda was looking at me, as usual, his hair was all wet and he was dripping everywhere.

I smiled and pulled him up.

" Let’s get you dried up.”

Jace followed us and kept laughing at Coda’s funny faces.

When Coda was all dressed up, I changed and prepared for everyone’s arrival.

Jace kept an eye on Coda who was waiting impatiently for the others.

When the doorbell rang, Coda ran to the door.

" There’s my man,” Blaine said pulling him up and twirling him around.

I chuckled and hugged them.

" You all came together?” I asked.

" Just a coincidence,” Nate said as he closed the door behind him.

Lana and Davina put their bags on the chairs.

Jace came into the kitchen.

" Guys this is Jace,” I said going near him.

"Jace, these are Lana, Davina, Blaine and Nate,” I said pointing to each one of them when I said their name. He smiled and took their hands.

He seemed nervous at first but with time they all got on together quite well.

The girls came into the kitchen to help me.

"Okay, you told me that he was hot but gurl that it panty dropping hot,” Davina said.

I laughed out loud.

" No really, where the heck did you get that guy? He looks like a model.” Lana said.

" Need help?” It was Jace's voice.

We all turned to look at him slowly.

He looked amused.

" No need.” I smiled at him.

He nodded and winked at me and left the room.

I sighed.

" Iris ..... He is too hot.” Lana said.

Davina nodded and they kept staring at the door.

" Keep your panties up girls, he is mine.” I teased.

They pushed me lightly and we all laughed it off.

When Coda was finally sleepy I took him to bed and the adult talk could begin.

Not that adult talk, geez.

I made a drink for everyone and sat near Jace.

" His birthday is coming soon right ?” Nate asked.

I nodded and sighed.

" I have no clue what to get him,” I said.

" He didn’t ask for anything?” Lana asked.

I gave her a look.” Do you know my son? He seriously is too good for his own good. He never asks for anything.”

They all chuckled.

" How about we take him to a piano concert?” Jace said.

I looked at him.

That was actually a very good idea.

" There is a concert next week.” He continued.

" That’s great, his birthday is next week.”

His eyes went wide.

" You took your own time thinking about his birthday.” He chuckled.

" Tell me about it.” Blaine joined in.

I glared at him and he chuckled.

" We got him something,” Blaine said.

" You know you didn’t have to, you guys did too much for me,” I said getting a little upset.

" Look, that kid was in our house for a long time before, I got used to him so he’s like a nephew for me.” He added.

I sighed.

" Depends on the amount of money you paid,” I said.

" We got him a small electric drum set.”

" What?!” I yelled.

They all shushed me.

" Do you know how much that costs?” I said exasperatedly.

" It’s from all of us, Iris. He told me that he wanted to play it.” Blaine said.

I rubbed my eyes and sighed.

" He wants to play every instrument, Blaine.”

He shrugged and I sighed again.

" We split it evenly Iris, it didn’t come as much as you think.” Lana intervened.

I looked up at them and they nodded.

" Fine but I’m paying half.”

They all glared at me.

“Fine!” I said.

They nodded and smiled.

Jace kept my hand in his to calm me down while they all talked.

They all hugged me goodbye and they hugged Jace as well. He blushed slightly but he enjoys himself.

He sat on the sofa again and patted the space next to him.

I sat and he pulled me on him.

" I’m tired,” I said rubbing my eyes.

" Is it because they bought an expensive gift?” Jace said.

I looked at him and sighed.

"Yeah, they are too good for their own sake.”

He chuckled and kissed my head.

" Let them be. That Blaine really loves your son.”

I nodded. ” He always loved kids and when he saw Coda he kept stealing him from me.” I chuckled remembering the stupid thing he did.

" He seems like a good friend.”

I nodded. ” They all are. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them.”

He smiled and hugged me to him.

" It’s gonna be okay Iris. You think too much about stuff.” He said nuzzling in my neck.

" Yeah.”

" I’ll get the tickets,” Jace said.

I looked at him and smiled.

" How did I end up with so many amazing people in my life?” I said kissing his nose.

" Well, you are a miracle to mine.”

I chuckled. ” Really?”

He grinned and nodded.

" You are a miracle to mine as well. I always thought that my son is my top priority and if I end up going out with someone my son would end up hurt but with you, it’s worth the risk.”

He looked into my eyes.

" I would never do anything to hurt you or your son Iris. That’s promise.”

I smiled and nodded.

" I believe you but sometimes life kicks you in different ways.”

He sighed.

" How about we live day by day then ?”

" That would be great.”

He leaned in and kissed me.
