Pain

Although I felt hesitant about following Corey, I knew deep down that I could trust him. I'm not questioning my safety with him, I'm questioning what I'm getting myself into. So much has happened since school started. I'm not sure what to expect anymore. As I'm following Corey through the corridors, I sense something different about this place. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I know it's safe. We finally entered a study room. "What is this place?" I asked. "My home," Corey whispered. "Your home?" "Yes, take a seat. We have much to discuss." I nodded and sat down, waiting for him to explain himself, but instead, he gave me a file. "In here, you'll understand everything." I braced myself, and took a deep breath.. whether I'm ready or not, it's time to find out what's going on. I opened the file, and in the end, I was stunned. I quickly got up to leave. I needed some time to process all of this and some fresh air. "Where are you going, Mia?!" Corey called out. "I need some time, Corey.. please." I exited the corridors back outside. I walked home in the pouring rain, wondering why me? Nothing will ever be the same again. I don't know if I'm capable of doing this. I'm actually glad no one was home when I opened the door. The quietness allowed me to not pretend I was ok. I slowly dragged myself to shower. I wish all of this was just a dream. My life isn't supposed to be like this. I lay on my bed, tired as ever, but I couldn't fall asleep. Tossing and turning, thinking about that file. Meanwhile, I was lost in my thoughts. Something touched my arm, startling me. Just as I screamed, my mouth was covered. "It's just me.." Corey whispered. "Corey... what are you doing here? How'd you get in?" "I knocked on the window, but you didn't hear me. It was unlocked, so I came in. I didn't mean to startle you. I just want to talk." I couldn't help but mumble, "I haven't thought about it thoroughly though, Corey. This is all too much for me to handle. I need more time." Corey held my hand, "Mia, I understand, but please talk to me. Keeping this all to yourself will only bring you pain and more confusion. I'm here... so please talk to me." I sighed, "Corey... I'm scared. I'm concerned, and my mind's a mess. I want to forget, forget all of this ever happened. I wish I had never come to this school. Do you understand how I feel?" Corey leaned in to hug me, "I do, and I'm sorry you got involved. I won't let anything happen to you because I will end this once and for all. I don't want you to get hurt. Please believe me." The tears finally unshackled themselves, flowing like a never-ending waterfall. I couldn't bear to hold it in anymore. I leaned into his chest, sobbing my heart out while he was rubbing my back to calm me down. It felt like an eternity before I could stop crying. He never once uttered a word, yet his presence brought me ease. Crying was exhausting, so exhausting, I didn't realize I had fallen asleep.
