Corey's POV
I knew she had walked home in the pouring rain. Every cell in my body urged me to run over and ensure she was ok. I knew better than anyone else that she needed this time alone. I sat there, staring at the sky. I would never allow anything to happen to her. She has become a big part of my life without me realizing it.
At first, it was just a spark of interest, then it slowly snuck up on me. I never thought this day would come when I would be afraid of losing someone. Our lives are different indeed. She's pure, innocent, everything I should stay away from, but I just can't stop coming back to her. If only she knew the effect she had on me.
The sun had gone down yet I couldn't stop thinking about her. I had to see her. I quickly left and drove as fast as I could to her house. All the lights were out, maybe she's sleeping. I'll just check-in and leave. She won't even notice.
I watched her through the window. She laid motionless and just as I thought she was asleep, she tossed and turned. Her thoughts are keeping her awake. I knocked lightly on the window, hoping she would hear me, but there was no response. I glanced at the unlocked window and slowly entered. She didn't even notice me standing there. A part of me felt relieved because I didn't want to scare her more. I pushed all the thoughts away as I slowly approached her. I got close enough to place my hand on her arm lightly, startling her. My hand covered her mouth just as she screamed.
"It's just me.." I whispered.
"Corey... what are you doing here? How'd you get in?"
"I knocked on the window but you didn't hear me and since it was unlocked, I came in. I didn't mean to startle you. I just want to talk."
She mumbles, "I haven't thought about it thoroughly though, Corey. This is all too much for me to handle. I need more time."
I held her hand, "Mia, I understand. Please talk to me. Keeping this all to yourself will only bring you pain and more confusion. I'm here... so please talk to me."
She sighs, "Corey... I'm scared. I'm concerned, and my mind's a mess. I want to forget, forget all of this ever happened. I wish I had never come to this school. Do you understand how I feel?"
I knew that feeling all too well. I leaned closer, "I do, and I'm sorry you got involved. I won't let anything happen to you, so I will end this once and for all. I don't want you to get hurt. Please believe me." I want to reassure her of my true feelings.
Mia started sobbing and leaning into my chest. The best comfort I can give her is my presence. I'm here listening. I slowly rubbed her back to help calm her down. Her sobbing slowly subsided as she finally fell asleep.
