I sneaked out of the room, and closed the door quietly so I wouldn’t wake Mum. I wasn’t feeling sleepy. Just wanted to be alone. If it was late at night I would have gone out to see the stars, maybe even taken a walk. Instead, I chose the piano. I’d seen it once, while wandering around the compound. A beautiful large piano in the quarters behind the main building. So I made my way there. The door creaked as I pushed it open. The place was tidy and cozy. Three sofas, a little wooden table, one big piano, and a stool in front of it. No dust. That meant someone either lived here or came by often. I shut the door behind me and walked to the piano. I sat down, closed my eyes, and played the only piece I knew like the back of my palm. Over and over and over again. I got lost in the song.
