"I see someone is finally awake," A woman who could only be described as a fairy walked into the room wearing the brightest smile I had ever seen on anyone. Even though I thought about bolting right away, I didn't, she must have noticed my continuance because she immediately tried to make me feel at ease. "Relax, no one would hurt you here," she said in a gentle tone and I almost believed her.
"Where am I?" I asked in a croaking voice when she flashed a little touch into my eyes. "Are you an angel?" she stopped to look at me and chucked a little before responding.
"No, I am not an angel but a doctor at Mystic Moon," she said and checked my pulse. "Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" I shook my head in reply, and then she proceeded to ask for my name, "What is your name, little guy?"
"Am I dead?" I asked in bewilderment. Nobody had ever shown such interest in me before, and no one had ever even bothered to ask if I was comfortable or not. Not intentionally, I realized I had just completely ignored her question to ask my own, but I needed to be sure that I could escape later.
"You are not dead, and like I just said, we are at the Mystic Moon pack," she said and watched me repeat the name, "My name is Matilda, and you were brought in three days ago," she added softly. I wonder whether what she was saying was the truth. Could it be that this angelic woman was only trying not to alarm me too much about the afterlife because how else was I found deep inside the woods? Unless she is a member of the Sparrow Claw gang and this, Mystic Moon is the main pack. I looked at her in awe, and she smiled back at me before asking "Mind telling me your name?"
"I don't have a name," I said after a short pause. It is true, I can't remember what I was called before the invasion of my pack. I don't even know the name of my home pack anymore. After being the slave in alpha Reuben's pack, I didn't worry about what others call me and ever only thought about how to behave well so that I would get fed. Nothing else mattered. There was a look of disbelief on her face, so I quickly added "You can call me whatever you want, I don't mind." she grimaced and nodded.
"Oh, you poor thing, do you remember anything?" she asked, and I thought about what to tell her. I am not sure if telling her about how I came to be locked up in a cage would do me any good or if I should just maintain that I can't remember anything. After all, if she was with the Sparrow Claw, she probably knew everything already.
"I can't remember," I said, and she nodded in understanding before her eyes glazed over. That's it, she was calling everyone over. Maybe I would get locked up again quicker than I expected. Many thoughts were running riot in my little mind, and although I was on the verge of giving up before and letting nature run its course, I didn't want to die anymore, no matter how hard it was, I wanted to live. I had decided to stay alive for as long as I could if that would be possible.
After my interactions with the doctor, I expected some actions but nothing. Instead, I was served the most sumptuous food I had ever eaten. Then I was introduced to several other workers in the hospital. Doctor Matilda assured me that I was safe, and promised to take me to meet the alpha as soon as I got discharged. I was so scared of meeting the ruler because of my experience with previous Alphas and I kept dreading the day I would have to leave the hospital, which happened exactly two days after I woke up.
"The alpha is magnanimous, you will see," Matilda said when she noticed my unease. We were both waiting at the entrance of the pack house and I almost turned around and ran into the wilderness, but I knew I would not get far, so I stayed put. What is the worst that could happen?
"You can go in," a huge tall man told us after a few minutes of waiting, and we proceeded into the house. For the first time in my life, I felt like I had come to a place where I belonged. The three other places I have had to live were nothing compared to this.
"Sorry for keeping you waiting," a husky male voice said as soon as we stepped into the large office. I don't know why, but I suddenly felt at home and this had never happened before. "There was so much to be done and such little time," he said in a jovial tone and then looked from me to the doctor.
"I can always lend a helping hand if you need one," the doctor said, and the mood in the room became even brighter.
"I will surely take you up on that offer," said the man, and the woman laughed. "This is the boy?" he asked, his tone suddenly turning serious.
"Yes, alpha," Maltina said, looking at me.
"Does he still not remember anything?"
"No,"
"What a shame, how old is he?" they were talking as though I was not in the room. With the question hanging in the air, they both turned to look at me, and I flinched. I didn't think they would need me to respond just yet, but Matilda never asked how old I was. No one ever asked me that.
"How old are you boy?" the man said when I stared back at them blankly. I can not say for sure if I know my exact age, but going by the age I was taken away from my home pack to this moment, I would say that I am between ages eight and nine, but I might be mistaken.
"I am nine years old sir," I said in a voice a little louder than a whisper. I had to say something, or I might get thrown out again and, since this person looked at me kindly, perhaps he was different from all the others I have had the misfortune of meeting thus far.
"Huh, well, would you like to join my pack?" he asked, surprising me for the second time today. Why was everything so different here? Does anyone always ask others before forcing them to serve in their packs? What would happen to me if my answer was no? Will he have me killed or expelled? "Relax kiddo, I won't force you to stay here if you don't want to, but I would advise you to stay, at least until you remember where you come from, and then we can help you get back home," he said as if reading my mind. I felt relieved at his words, he wasn't compelling me to do this, which only gained him more admiration from me. If only everyone could be like this man here. I have no home to return to, but since he offered, I should stay here for a bit. Maybe when I get older, I will be allowed to leave, but until then, I know more than anyone that I need to belong somewhere.
"Thank you, sir," I said and he smiled back.
"Splendid, I will arrange for your membership ritual in the evening, and from now on, you will call me alpha, understood?"
"Yes sir, I mean, yes alpha," And that night I got introduced to almost everyone in the pack after combining my blood with the alpha's on the pack's tablet. I have never felt so much happiness in one day, it felt so good that at some point I started to get scared that it would all disappear when I woke up. Maybe it was all just a dream, but the more I pinched myself, the more I realized I wasn't dreaming and everything was real. I would start as an omega and when I grow older, the kind of wolf I get would determine my position. I should do something to pay back the favor of this kind alpha and staying an omega forever doesn't sound so bad either. Everyone was so nice in the pack and even the head omega was very kind when explaining things to me. Everything was going well until I met with the alpha's son. He didn't hide his disdain and always found something wrong in everything I did. Maybe he thought I was going to take his position or something, but his malicious intent towards me was on a different level, and he never pretended to hide it. And because he started it, everyone around him also began to taunt me.
