Six The darkness covered him, wrapping itself around him like a shroud, like his own cocoon. Slowly, he noticed things. He lay on his back, and air washed over his face. Most of the time it was cool and sterile. But sometimes it was warm, and there was a hint of something exotic, something exciting. It enticed him like the rich aromas of a fine meal. And, yes, he was hungry. But the emptiness was not in his stomach. That felt small now, and he did not suffer from a lack of that kind of food. Rather, his body felt weary, run down. Maybe unenergised was a better word. He knew that, if he could take some energy, his limbs would respond, and he would gain control of himself.
