Nine Brice woke to find himself covered in crisp sheets, with his head on a hard pillow. The room was dimly lit, and when he shifted his body to one side, whatever bed he lay on creaked uncomfortably. The room was small. Apart from the bed, there was a desk and two chairs, and a storage unit. Brice saw two doors, one open to reveal a wash-basin, the other closed. Seated in one of the chairs was a figure.
