Kiana's POV
After so long, it's good to be back here. I closed my eyes and inhaled the familiar lavender scent in the palace.
"Kiana...Kiana!!"
"Oh my, sorry about that. How long was I zoned out for?" I asked, noticing the weird way Kayla was staring at me.
"You still zone out mid convos?" Kayla asked, slightly raising one of her brows.
"You know something, Kayla, I had a pretty tough trip, and I'd appreciate it if you showed me where I'd be staying," I said, trying to bypass Kayla's question.
She gasped, and her eyes bulged. I thought her eyes would fall out of their sockets the way she stared wide-eyed at me.
"You mean you're going to be staying with us for how long?" She asked in a high-pitched tone that reflected her inner excitement.
"I don't know." I shrugged slightly. "But I can stay as long as I want, can't I?"
"Of course, sweetie…." She replied, the smile on her face still illuminating her features. I tried to hide the sleek smile that crept its way into my face.
"Well, can we go in now?" Interrupted, I wasn't listening to anything she was saying. Rather, I wanted to get through today and go over my plans once again before I had the time to hold any more conversations with her.
There was a trace of disappointment in her face when I stopped her midway.
"Oh, come on now. Don't be like that. I had a pretty rough day and I need to rest and probably refill my stomach later on. I'm sure there's enough food in the kitchen to do justice to that," I said, the last sentence was on a lighter note, and I was glad that she responded positively to it.
She giggled before going on to say; "of course, there's enough food and I know just how much you eat. I hope it hasn't doubled by now."
"Oh well I can't say, time you see how many plates I can finish in just one sitting." I returned her smile.
She shoved me to the side gently with her shoulder and I found myself tumbling to the ground.
"Kiana, oh my goodness, I'm so sorry." Kayla let out, but it wasn't her fault. I was star-struck at the sight of Alpha Harlem. Was it me or did he get more handsome than the last time I remember?
"Alpha.... Harlem." I found myself stuttering heavily as I tried getting up, but my knees buckled multiple times under me.
"Are you hurt?!" Alpha Harlem walked up to me and stretched his hand toward me. It felt like I had been thrust into a whirlpool of emotions as his fingers grazed my skin.
"Yes, I... I mean, no...no I'm not hurt." I stuttered but shook my head discreetly right after so I could maintain my composure.
He hauled me from the ground onto my feet when I heard Kayla's distant voice asking if I was okay when I felt my wolf screaming inside of me as I locked my gaze on the alpha. His scent was intoxicating as he held me close to him and our faces were so close that...
"Are you sure you're okay?" Alpha Harlem's soothing voice broke my train of thought.
"She is zoning out again. She always does this." I heard Kayla say again.
"I'm sorry..." I said, turning to face her while still clutching Alpha Harlem's hand. Goodness, his hands looked coarse, but they were the softest hands a man could ever own, and it made my stomach tighten.
Kayla grabbed my shoulders with both hands, consequently breaking me away from Harlem. "Are you okay? Why did you fall like that? I didn't push you too hard, did I?" She asked all at once.
"I'm fine, I just need some rest," I said, pretending to contort my face into a deep frown, so I looked kind of pale.
"Oh my!" Kayla exclaimed, her face reflecting her deep concern. "Come let's get you inside." She said, taking me by the arm and supporting my weight as we both walked inside. She stopped suddenly in her tracks and turned to look at Harlem.
I swallowed the bile in my throat, trying as much as possible to avoid direct eye contact with the alpha as I didn't want another accident to occur.
"Can you get a maid for me, darling?" Her tone was soft as she spoke, one that she had never used on me before. Well, not that I cared though.
"Let's go." She said to me, and we walked until we got to one of the chambers that was reserved for the palace visitors.
"Where is your own chamber, Kayla?" I asked her.
"Oh, ours is just down this corridor." She answered innocently, pointing towards where her chamber was.
I followed the direction of where her finger was pointed, taking note of the multiple chambers that one had to pass by before getting to theirs. Theirs was like the apex of all other chambers arranged across the corridor.
"Uhm, Kayla?" I called out to her.
"Yes, what's the matter?" She asked, concern etched in her tone.
"I want a room...close to yours," I said innocently.
"Oh, that won't be a problem, but do you have the strength to walk down there? I chose this one so it'll be easier for you to get to, and it's not too far from the exit."
"You know how scared I am to stay in a room all alone, but I can't stay with you and your husband, but at least, staying close to you guys will bring me some comfort,"
"I understand. Let's go then." She said and led me to the chamber closest to theirs.
"Here we are," Kayla said and opened up the door to the chamber that was larger than most houses put together. If this chamber was this large, I wondered how large Harlem's chamber was.
"I guess it won't be long until I find out." I intoned internally, my face lightening up with a broad grin.
