I had spent an entire afternoon at the hospital, and it had been two days without sleep. Rebecca's tests were already done, and she could continue her way. The problem: three wolves surrounded the hospital. Every time Rose saw me, she had the opportunity to reproach me for what I did. I had no regrets; I wasn't going to leave her with that monster. She entered Rebecca's room with all her exams.
"How did you sleep?" I asked.
"I think I haven't slept so well in months," she said. I looked at her; I had to break the news of her pregnancy, and I didn't know how she would take it. "Is something wrong?"
"We did some tests, and... you're pregnant," I told her, but she didn't react.
"Is he still alive?" she asked, to which I nodded.
"Did you know?" I asked, to which she nodded.
"I found out a week before I escaped," she told me. "I thought with the malnutrition and the beatings, he wouldn't survive," she explained.
"How old are you, Rebecca?" I asked.
"Seventeen... What will happen now?" she asked. "I overheard a conversation with a nurse saying that what you're doing could be in danger. I don't want you to be in danger because of me."
She started talking so quickly that she didn't let me explain. I wasn't sure if she knew about our world or if she was just a human thinking a psychopath had kidn*pped her.
"I don't know what will happen, but I need to talk to you and I need all the details you can give me," I told her, to which she nodded. "What do you know about your kidnapper?" I asked.
"That he's insane," she replied bluntly. "He was always in meetings, but when he came and I didn't obey him, he got furious, he would hit me, and lock me up for nights without food. He had some huge dogs," I interrupted.
"Those dogs are wolves," I explained, even if it sounded rough. There was no need to beat around the bush.
"They weren't wolves; they were too big," she said, to which I nodded.
"Because they are werewolves," I told her, to which she laughed. "Listen, I know it sounds like nonsense to you, but werewolves, witches, vampires, and everything you can think of exist. That... what's his name?
"Borja, I don't know his last name. They always call him Alpha," she explained.
"Borja is a werewolf, and unfortunately, you are his mate," she listened attentively.
I spent the whole day explaining about the wolves to her. Although she couldn't believe that she was his mate because he did that to her, and truth be told, I didn't understand it either. I left her in the room with a change of clothes. Today, I would discharge her. The gynecologist gave her what she should take regarding the pregnancy. Although I didn't know if she wanted to go through with it, that was her decision. I approached Rose, who, unlike the other nurses, was a witch with many skills, and only she could help me with what I wanted to do next.
"Rose," I called her. She approached me. "I need to get Rebecca out of this place." As soon as I finished saying it, she replied.
"Forget it. You're putting yourself and that girl in danger. Don't give me that look, miss, because when you asked for my help in the past to escape from him, I gave it to you. Now, I won't help you with her. If they find out, I won't be able to do anything, do you understand?"
"Are you in danger too?" I heard her behind us. "Is there no other solution?"
"I'll get you out of here, but you need to get on a plane as far away as possible," Rose explained.
"Rose, she's seventeen and pregnant. We can't send her to the other end," I explained. She crossed her arms.
"And where do you want to take her, young lady?" She looked at me. I thought of the only place where she could be safe.
"To the town," I said, and Rose shook her head.
"No, for that, you'll have to talk to the superiors, and I don't think they want more trouble with the wolves," she explained.
"I'll take care of her," Rose looked at the girl and then at me. "Come on, Rose, I swear that when she can become independent, she'll leave the town," I said.
"You'll have to leave the city; you know that. You can't come knowing they can follow you," she said. I just nodded. "I'll talk to them," I shouted happily and hugged her.
"Thank you, thank you. I promise I won't get you into trouble," I said.
"I doubt that very much," she said, moving away. I told Rebecca to stay in the room until I had news. Meanwhile, I began to work...
Hours passed, and Rose didn't return, but she kept me informed about the meeting she was having. I felt someone behind me and turned my head only to see that Alpha they call Borja.
"What year are you from, Alpha?" I asked without looking at him and continued to sign papers and discharge some patients.
"That's none of your business," he replied with a growl.
"Well, he's right. Do you still believe your mate is in this hospital?" I asked, looking at him.
"I affirm it," he said after examining my face thoroughly. He smiled to the side, which confused me. "You know, your face seems familiar," he said. My hands were sweating, but my face remained serious.
"If you read medical articles, it might be," I said, starting to walk. "Have a good day."
"I already know!" he exclaimed, making me stop in my tracks. "Victoria Valsaky," he said with an evil smile.
My body froze. For that wolf to know who I was, he had to be very old. He approached me.
"Companion of the Alpha King," he continued speaking as he got closer. "It would be a shame if he came personally.
"Even if he came, he can't... do anything," I said, swallowing. My self-control was non-existent; talking about him induced fear.
"If..." he said, making a pensive expression. "But if you break a single rule, you belong to him again... So let's do this as quickly and beneficially for both. Where is my mate?"
His eyes had turned red, but I wasn't going to give in. The only solution left was to send Rebecca to the witches' town, where she would be safe.
"I don't know," I said, "and believe me, I don't know where she is."
He smiled again and walked away from me, heading for the exit. Before leaving, he turned and looked at me.
"Tic toc... The Alpha is coming for you..."
