First encounter

I was deployed back into Vietnam the next year. We were based back in the same woods where we had lost the fight there year before. While looking for redemption, we would train each day. Doing running, hiking, gun training and more. We were also trying to keep as low of a profile as we could, just to make sure we wouldn't be caught by enemy soldiers. It was the first night out there when things started happening. The first night while in my specific bunk trying to sleep. I heard a few grunting noices just from outside the tent. I didn't think anything about it for awhile as there were always noices in the night. So I just thought that it was one of those noises. I got up the next morning and was told that I was going to be patrolling the area around our camp along with a few other men. These men were highly trained like myself and were not the bullshitting type. The names of these men were Danny, Blake, Allen, and George. We would head out for patrol around 8 am. I remember that it was about an hour after we first left for patrol. I was on the outside from our base perimeter and we started hearing things going on in the woods next to us. We first heard a noise that I can only describe as a whooping sound. Almost like an owl would make, only it was way louder than an owl. This was a weird noice but I threw it to the back of my head saying to myself, "That's just an owl." We kept walking, but before we could complete our full first lap we were jolted by a scream that I can only describe as being from an other worldly being. The sound was so loud that it shook my chest and everything else. This is the first time since being apart of the military that I had actually felt afraid. I muttered to the others, " Let's keep moving, " That's exactly what we did. When we were taken back at camp, we told the sargent that we didn't see anyone moving around out there. He dismissed us, but before he could do that we told him about the noise we heard. The sergent, of course, looked at us like we were crazy and just said the word dismissed to us. We than were told by the second in command to go ahead and rest for the night back at bunk c. Bunk C was the building number or letter. We all bunked there at the time and when we got to the bunk, I realized we were the alone in the bunk. Noone else was in the bunk at all. So the four of us immediately engaged in conversation about what we had just heard. None of us could figure it out. I had never heard a call like that so I was up for whatever anyone had to suggest. All the suggestions didn't make sense. Owls, no they wouldn't whoop like that or make a call like that. Bear, no they still couldn't equal the volume of this thing. Leopards can't wail like whatever that did. Tigers couldn't do the yell that this thing did either. Don't get me wrong, tiger roars are crazy, but whatever this thing was made a tiger sound like a mouse in volume. This thing was something that I had never heard before and quite frankly I didn't want to meet it either. I was about to though. The next few days went on uneventful, however I asked if I could take a lantern out each time we patrolled. Just so that way we could see for sure what we were doing at night. Knowing that this thing was out there was reason enough to have that lantern. I also wanted it so we could see at night, we were having trouble seeing at night. When I asked the sergent immediately approved claiming he also didn't want us shooting each other on accident at night while patrolling. We didn't hear anything more for at least a good week or more, and the thought of whatever made those sounds had slipped our minds completely. We went back to our usual routine of checking the perimeter around camp. We didn't see anything or hear anything for quiet sometime. However, after a week we heard those same screams come from the woods next to us. This gave a few of our four man crew pause and fright. This thing was back, not only that, but I swore that I saw red eyes in the dark woods close by. I didn't get a good enough look though and soon forgot about it. This night at base on April 14th, 1968 would turn into the most frightful night ever. I was in my bed inside of my designated bunk when all of the sudden I heard the base alarm. "Contact!" I heard out of one of our men. I could hear the roaring that me and my fellas knew exactly that scream because we had heard it before. We weren't being attacked by the enemy, we were being attacked by an animal or something. At least it sounded like an animal. We flew from our bunks and got in uniform quick. Once we got outside we saw a horrific sight. Our fellow allies were fighting back something that looked like it was straight out of a horror movie. This animal they were fighting was giant. Had to be at least ten foot tall. Very broad shoulders and muscles that you could see flexing underneathe it's hairy skin. It had red glowing eyes and a patruding jaw. The color of the things hair was reddish brown like an orangutan's. This thing looked mad and it was having its way with our allies. We grabbed our guns from inside after seeing this and ran into battle. Danny charged full force and got closelined by the creature before us. As he got up he was picked up with ease by this thing and hurdled through the air about fourty feet. Mind you Danny was the heaviest set guy we have on our team and he got tossed weighing in at about two hundred fifteen pounds of brute force and he wasn't afraid of anyone. He got tossed like a toy by this thing. Now the things attention was on Allen, who was now shaking in fear. The thing charged Allen and right than Allen opened fire. He got it twice, but it didn't slow down the creature any. He got to Allen and barreled his shoulder towards Allen and thrusted up with Allen in his way. Allen got sent through the air and impaled by an exposed tree limb. George didn't do much better as he ran towards it sticking his knife in its back. The creature looked at him with eyes that spoke its own words. He knew he messed up. The thing grabbed his head and in one squeeze, the creature crushed his skull. A few other allies tries to take this creature down but even with four attacking at the same time this creature wasn't going down and not flinching either. This thing was almost indestructible. Two people got clotheslined at the same time and picked up and had their heads crushed together to where they looked like they were stuck together at the head. It was now up to me and Blake, the last two alive in our base camp. It was at this moment that i saw a grenade over by the explosive bunker that was on the ground. This is when I got the brilliant idea to thrown a grenade at it. When I did the thing caught it and threw it right back at me. The grenade went off sending me into the bunker behind me. Hitting back first and jolting my head into the wall. I coughed after hitting the bunker sending blood paturding out of my mouth. At this point I thought I was going to die. The thing seemed distracted by me making it easy for a sneak attack. Before I past out I saw Blake take the sniper he had kept in his locker in the bunker and point it at the things head and shot it at point blank. The things head exploded in blood and chunks of brain, skull, and tissue went everywhere. The creature fell down and as Blake made his way over to me, I past out. When I woke up, I was laying in a hospital bed. It was light outside now. I looked around the room and saw Blake was sitting on a chair beside the window. He was sleeping and I was curious as to why he was in the room with me. The door started to open and a nurse walked into the room. "Hello there, I see your awake." she said to me kindly. "How are you feeling?" she asked me after closing the door behind her. "I feel like s**t, I can barely breathe." I told her while clinching my chest. "Well you came in here pretty busted up and dried blood all over you. We had to put in a chest tube to remove the excess fluids to reinflate your lungs and drain fluid and air because you had a punctured lung. One of your ribs broke, luckily it was a clean break. So once you lung reinflates and the incision closes, than we can tape the rib back up." she told me while smiling at me. "Oh, is that why I'm kinda pale?" I asked her sincerely. "Yes, but that was not the only issue hun. You see, you also hit your head to putting you at a risk for a possible concussion. However, after doing a catscan on you, we found that you had no symptoms concussion activity." she told me with some reassurance. "You also have had your kneck jarred to resulting in whiplash as well. Sounds like you had a rough time in battle boy." she said winking at me for a second. I could tell she was into me right away. I didn't know this but later on I would find out that my hints were right. For the moment though she was focused on taking care of me. "Yeah, you should've been there to see it." I told her without realizing. "Oh yeah. What happened out there? Several people came back with very unusual wounds and you buddy in that chair over there won't say a word. What's going on?" she asked in a curious toned manner. "You wouldn't believe me if I told you." "I think that will be all Mrs. Thorne." came a voice from the hallway. I looked over and a man with a black suit and black tie was now standing in the doorway. She looked at the man and her eyes got wide. "I'm sorry sir I was just..." she said before being interrupted. "You may go now Mrs. Thorne. Mr. Darkman and I have to have a little chat." he said as his voice got stern. "Yes sir," she said walking out of the room. The man's eyes glared at her as she past through the doorway. Afterwards his eyes focused right back in on mine. "Mr. Darkman, can you tell me. Why do you think I'm her." He asked me while I looked into his eyes. "No, not exactly. Why are you here?" I told him back while using his own question on him. He proceeded to tell me from there in short that he was from a secret government agency that was operated under the FBI. He told me that he didn't want me breathing a word about the thing I saw in the middle of the night. Telling me to relate it to everyone who ask about it, as a war related incident. "You are going to tell people that you were caught up in an incident during war. A grenade went off in your hand sending you back into the wall and when it did it made you holusinate about something that wasn't there in the first place. You get that?" He told me before asking the question. "What makes you think I'm going to listen to you?" I asked him before he pulled out his pistol and aimed it towards my head. "Because if you do, our agency will find you and have you killed." He told me looking at me dead in the eyes. I knew that this man wasn't joking now. I didn't want to do anything to cause him to go berserk. "Alright I won't say anything to anyone about it. Just lower your weapon please." I said kinda frightened about his sudden reaction. "Alright, the sergent at main base wants to see you when we get back in four weeks. He says to tell you take the six weeks off for the injury, but as soon as your healed. You need to go to Burns Air Force Base. I'm not sure why." He said after putting his pistol away. "If you'll excuse me we are done here. Darkman dismissed." He said as he walked out of the room. It was almost as if he knew that place from somewhere and it made him worry. What was all of that about though anyway? What could possibly have that man worried so much about it getting out? I didn't know and at the time period I didn't care. The nurse from earlier would end up coming back in a few hours and told me I would have to let it heal for at least 6 weeks. How did that man know how long it was going to take to heal my wounds. Nothing that had just happened made any sense to me. I couldn't understand what had just happened and frankly I didn't want to. So instead of ponder my mind a out what the stranger man in black said, I decided I would head to bed. Next four weeks would go by without a hitch. However, I would not hear from the man in black on that boat for at least the rest of the trip. The nurse kept coming in and we could chat for awhile. We started becoming really good friends and found out that we liked most of the same things. We both were huge Beatles fans and would consistently sing some of their best songs. She eventually would give me her number for when I got back to the mainland. She said that she wouldn't be deployed out there for much longer and that she wanted to get to know me better. Life was looking up for me, but in May I my normal life would be turned upside down.
