The Day That Was Not To Be

INSIDE ANJANA\'S CELL

Anjana opens the packet once she is in the privacy of her bathroom. She is surprised to see a letter inside. As she is reading the letter, somebody knocks at her bathroom door rather abnormally. She asks for the identity of the person and is calmed to know that it is Vipul.

Anjana: Will be there in a minute. Need to freshen up, after that stupid meeting.

Anjana comes out calmly. To Vipul"s surprise, she is sporting a pleasant smile. Brushing it aside as one of her mood shifts, he tells her that it is time for their daily treatment session.

It is at this session that Vipul is planning to make her inactive for the rest of her life. Actually, the court order granting permission to conduct this might further take a day or two. In anticipation of the court order and on Shrikar"s persistence, he is proposing to conduct the ‘deactivation ceremony’ earlier.

But dampening his plans Anjana asks for its postponement by a day as she is feeling very weak. Vipul tries to argue against it. But Anjana is stubborn and sticks to her guns! Vipul tries to forcefully take her to the examining room to which she reacts in the most violent manner ever, injuring Vipul along with two nurses and a marshal. To calm her to a comatose, she is injected with multiple drugs. With Anjana knocked unconscious, Vipul is left with no other option but to wait for the next day.

The next day, an anxious Vipul takes Anjana inside the examining room, orders the CCTV cameras to be switched off and asks the nurses to wait outside.

Vipul is readying for his heinous act. Then, with a sleight of hand Anjana covers Vipul"s face with a chloroform soaked kerchief and renders him unconscious. Then she conceals the handkerchief and hammers his nose with an abandoned equipment lying in the room. After that she sadistically slits her right thigh with a hospital knife and screams out with all her lungs.

Hearing her shrieks, nurses and guards run in -- and see Vipul knocked down and Anjana bleeding profusely. Anjana shouts out that Vipul made an attempt to kill her but somehow she managed to knock him down. She also requests them to pick up and preserve the injection bottles (the ones which were to be used on her and also the ones which were used on her earlier) to be sent out for forensic examinations – to establish that they contained drugs to deliberately turn her violent so as to procure a court order to make her inactive for the rest of her life.

Then she pretends to be fainting owing to excessive bleeding.

The medical team bandage her wound and try to revive her, but they are unable to meet with success. With no option left, they are forced to move her out to a General Hospital. While moving her, the ambulance gets stuck in a traffic jam as a politician"s convoy is passing through.

This is when that letter unfolds – the letter which Ravi handed over to Anjana in a cover:

"Dear Anjana,

Please forgive me. You were right. It was foolish of me not to believe in what you said.

Now listen. With this letter you will find three airtight packets containing kerchiefs soaked in chloroform. Use each one of them cautiously. And please tear a part of your bed sheet and conceal the shreds within this cover.

Tomorrow, Vipul and team would conspire to medically make you inactive for the rest of your life. Then they will usurp all your properties. Don’t let this happen. Vipul will plan to do the operations secretly and in isolation. Cunningly cover his face with one of the kerchiefs and make him grow unconscious. Then strike on his face with something heavy taken from the surroundings. Inflict an injury on your right thigh with an easily available scalpel. You will find it scary; but let the blood squirt out profusely. Then scream aloud and proclaim that Vipul made an attempt to murder you. Since your injury is not minor, you will be taken out to the General Hospital. Tomorrow being a public holiday (visually Ravi is shown reading the hoarding about the politician"s public speech on the Independence Day) there would be shortage of employees in the hospital. You behave ultra normal. Then they will send you out with just one attendant to take care of you. Render him/her unconscious with another chloroform-drenched kerchief.

When your ambulance stops at a traffic junction, open the door and run. Please come directly to my house after this escape. Please remember to conceal the chloroform drenched handkerchiefs after each act and bring them back to me so that I can destroy the kerchiefs and the shreds of the bed sheet. PLEASE DESTROY THIS LETTER AFTER READING."

The ambulance reaches the General Hospital. But there is no trace of Anjana inside it. The accompanying nurse is lying unconscious.

A Red Alert is issued to locate Anjana. A police team reaches the Mental Hospital as they were informed about the assault on Anjana and her subsequent disappearance. They make preliminary enquiries. They also confiscate the injection apparatuses found at the crime-spot and send them for forensic analysis.
