LACYs NEW BOYFRIEND

865 Words
Setting: The stage is split into two main areas: 1. The Cafeteria – A place where students gather for lunch, with tables scattered across the stage, some with backpacks and lunch trays. 2. The School Hallway – The space between classes, with lockers, posters on the walls, and students walking by. Lighting: The cafeteria scenes are brightly lit, giving a lively, social atmosphere. The hallway scenes have a more subdued, cool lighting to reflect Clara’s emotional distance. [Scene 1: Lacy’s New Relationship] (The cafeteria. Clara is sitting at a table, eating lunch and sketching in her notebook. Lacy enters with Jake, a tall, confident-looking boy. Lacy’s face is lit up with excitement as she introduces Jake to Clara.) Lacy: (smiling widely) Clara, this is Jake, my new boyfriend! Clara: (looking up, trying to smile but feeling uneasy) Hi, Jake. Jake: (grinning) Hey, nice to meet you. Lacy talks about you all the time. Clara: (forcing a smile) Oh, really? (Lacy and Jake sit down, and they start talking animatedly. Clara tries to focus on her sketchbook, feeling somewhat left out of the conversation. Lacy and Jake laugh together, sharing inside jokes.) Lacy: (playfully to Jake) Remember that time you tripped over your shoes last week? I thought you were gonna faceplant! Jake: (laughing) Hey, I was in a rush! Clara: (to herself, quietly) Yeah, must have been hilarious... (Clara tries to join in, but the conversation continues to revolve around Jake and their growing relationship. Clara’s face falls as she realizes Lacy is more absorbed in Jake than in their usual friendship.) [Scene 2: Clara’s Emotional Struggle] (The school hallway. Clara stands by her locker, looking down at her phone. She sees a message from Lacy, but it’s about her plans with Jake. Clara closes her locker with a soft sigh and walks down the hallway, passing by students who are chatting and laughing. She looks down, feeling disconnected.) Clara: (to herself) She’s really into him, huh? I guess that’s just how it goes... I didn’t expect it to happen so fast. (Clara stands by a row of lockers, watching groups of students walking by. She pulls out her sketchbook and flips through the pages, her expression distant.) Clara: (whispering to herself) Am I even part of her life anymore? (The light dims slightly as Clara continues walking, her mood heavy with unspoken sadness. She stops and leans against a locker, staring blankly into space.) [Scene 3: A Heart-to-Heart] (Later that day, back in the cafeteria. Clara sits at a table alone, picking at her lunch. Lacy walks in with Jake but notices Clara sitting alone. She walks over, sitting next to Clara.) Lacy: (gently) Hey, Clara. You okay? Clara: (shrugging) Yeah, I’m fine. Just... busy. Lacy: (noticing Clara’s tone) You don’t seem fine. I can tell something’s off. Clara: (looking down) It’s nothing, really. Lacy: (gently) Clara, if something’s bothering you, you can tell me. I’m your friend. Clara: (quietly) I just feel like... I don’t know. You’re spending so much time with Jake now. It’s like I don’t even matter anymore. Lacy: (surprised) Clara, that’s not true! I didn’t mean to make you feel that way. Clara: (softly) It’s okay. I get it. You’ve got him now. Lacy: (reaching out, touching Clara’s arm) It’s not like that. I’m still here for you. I want both—you and Jake—in my life. Clara: (quietly) But it’s different now, Lacy. Things aren’t the same. Lacy: (sincerely) I know it feels that way, but I don’t want you to feel left out. You mean so much to me. You always will. Clara: (looking up, holding back tears) It’s just... hard. You’ve changed, and I feel like I’m the only one who hasn’t. Lacy: (gently) I haven’t changed, Clara. I’m still the same person. I’m just figuring out how to balance things. I can’t promise that things won’t shift a little, but I promise we’ll figure it out. Clara: (nodding slowly) I don’t know... I feel so alone sometimes. Lacy: (sincerely) You’re not alone. Not ever. You’re my best friend, Clara. Don’t forget that. (Clara looks at Lacy, a faint smile appearing on her lips as she feels the weight of her words. The tension lifts slightly, but Clara’s vulnerability remains.) [Scene 4: Resolution and Reflection] (The stage is dim, with Clara sitting alone at the park bench. She gazes at the sky, deep in thought. Lacy walks in from stage left, approaching Clara.) Lacy: (sitting beside Clara) You’ve been quiet lately. Clara: (smiling faintly) I’ve just been thinking a lot, I guess. Lacy: (nodding) About Jake? Clara: (shrugging) Yeah, a little. But also about... us. About everything changing. Lacy: (gently) I know it’s hard. But I don’t want you to feel left behind. I’ll always be here for you, Clara. Clara: (smiling softly) Thanks. I’ve realized something... I need to focus on myself, too. I can’t just let my world revolve around you or anyone else. Lacy: (grinning) That’s the spirit! Clara: (looking up) It’s not easy, but I think I’m ready to figure it out. To grow. (They sit in silence, watching the sunset together, a quiet but meaningful peace settling between them.)
