1. A Deep Blue

***Liliana Lee Smith *** I yawned as I sat in the boardroom listening to the three investors trying to offer me the and I quote "best deal you can't refuse." To be clear, I was still waiting for the "best" part. At the end of their presentation, they all looked at me in expectation. "You have to go to be joking, right?" I said bluntly. "W- we don't know what you mean, Ms. Smith. " one of the stuttered. "Do you really expect me to be nice after you walked into my board room trying to scam me after you had the nerve to tell me that your deal was the "best". It's not even good. Do you think I'm stupid?" I asked. Although it was a rhetorical question, one of the idiots still decided it would be best if he answered. "No, mam." He said, and I rolled my eyes. "That was a rhetorical question dumbass." I said, not even trying to hide my glare. I was a very short tempered woman, and these idiots just wasted 3 hours of my day with this meeting. I was also hungry, which added to my grumpiness. "You," I pointed at the man on the first chair to my right hand side. "You only paired up with these idiots because of the shipment they had received last week and you..." I pointed to the second guy. "...you think I'm so stupid that I don't know you have been revived from bankruptcy by his crime money." I pointed at the third guy who presented the whole thing. They all stared at me with their mouths agape. "And never underestimate me because I am a woman who does her homework. Now get the f**k out of my office." I said and they scrambled out. "Kyla, bring me lunch." I said over the intercom to my secretary, who was just outside my office. "On it, boss." She said, and I sighed. I have been working with Kyla as my secretary for the past two years, so I knew when something was bothering her. "What's wrong, Kyla?" I asked her. "Uhm...boss, you won't be happy." She said. I rolled my eyes. I was tired, angry, crampy, and hungry. I really did not have the temperament for bad news. "Spit it out, Kyla." I said to her. "I just found out that someone has been leaking the company's information to someone else, but the IP address has been protected by a firewall that I couldn't crack." She said. My blood boiled. What the f**k? If someone was not going to die before, they surely were now. "Pass the information over. I'll deal with it." I said with gritted teeth. My phone rang, and I was about to decline when Ryan's name flashed on my screen. "What?" I said. "Hey, don't get your panties in a twist. I was just calling to tell you that you need to go check out that bar tonight for McClaren." He said, and I sighed exhaustedly. "Fine, thanks." I hung up. My phone dinged again with the information Kyla sent me. I stood up and walked to my office. I opened my laptop and started to decode the information Kyla sent. I hacked into their system, broke the fire wall, and "dealt" with the matter. No one said I had to do it legally. The years I spent studying computer science and my 'skills' really came in handy sometimes. Closing the laptop I packed to go to the airport. In the empty parking lot, a black Maybach had found itself parked in one the reserved spot on my reserved parking floor. Who dares park on my floor? That's right, I had my own parking level with only me and my family allowed to park. I looked at the car, and the name on the plate made me scrunch my face in confusion. Who the hell is "KING". I felt a headache coming on. I was so not in the mood to fight with someone for a parking spot. Besides, the only family I had, wanted me to pick them up from the airport. Abigail and Nicholas were my two best friends from college so that qualified them as my only family. They were the only family I had...well apart from my actual family that was still alive and breathing but dead to me so that basically meant they were dead. ●●●●● After picking up Abby and Cole from the airport I drove home while we caught up with each other's lives in the car. Abby owned a fashion company in New York. She had her own minions working for her like I did but she was a nicer boss than me, that I could guarantee. Cole was his own soccer star player who was currently off season. "Oh my goodness look at you. You are all badass and bossy. I never thought you would grow so fast from the first time we met and all that you have gone through I honestly..." Abby spoke but trailed off because she started to sob. "Oh Abby don't start with the water works. Cole a little help here?" "You know she is right but no need for the waterworks." "Well tanks to you guys I am here right now and Cole I thought you were on my side." "Oh come on you know I would never choose between my two favourite girls." ***************************************************************************** "Where did you leave Aria?" I asked Cole as we all settled in my living room after I took a nice long bath. "With her mother." He replied. Aria was Cole's daughter and my niece since I saw Cole as an older brother. "Was she alright with it? You know I wouldn't have minded to have her over." I said with a whine at the end. "No way you spoil her way too much and besides Lydia had been asking to spend time with Arianna. " he said I feigned shock at his words. "Are you okay with it?" I asked Abby who also nodded happily. Cole and Abby ended up falling in love with each other. It was the classic story of "Friends to Lovers " but after they had got together, Cole's ex Lydia came to dump her child for Cole to take care of. "It's okay." Abby reassured as she saw my expression. "I never liked that woman." I stated and they both laughed. "So did you guys see what I had gotten for you?" I asked them. "Yes the clothes are beautiful. What's the occasion? "Cole said. "We are going to a club tonight." I said and they both froze. They exchanged glanced like someone had died. "You wanna go to a club?" Abby asked. "Who are you and what have you done with our sister Lili? "Cole added on. I rolled my eyes at them. "It's for McClaren. " I said. "I hope Grandpa does not have you in any dangerous stunts and all." Abby scolded. "Relax nothing I can't handle."
