We finally arrived at a large room filled with more demons, all chained and screaming in torment. Great, I’m the only human here, I thought, trying not to bring attention to myself.
The demon who led me in chuckled and said, "This is where you will spend the rest of your days, young one. Witnessing the pain of those who caused your own. Perhaps one day, you will understand the true cost of war."
I looked around the room, despair filling me as I realized the extent of my punishment. I had been doomed to spend eternity in this place, watching the suffering of others. But as I watched the demons, I suddenly felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe there was a way to turn this around.
"How long do I have to be here?” I asked, trying to find a way out of this suffering.
The demon's face twisted into a twisted grin. "Forever, my dear. You will remain here, in this place of torment, until you have learned the true cost of war and the consequences of your family's actions. Your suffering will be a constant reminder to your people of the darkness that lies within them.”
I took a deep breath, trying to find the courage to endure this eternal punishment. But as I looked around the room, I couldn't help but wonder how long it would take for me to understand the true cost of war and the consequences of my family's actions.
As I stood there, I suddenly felt a presence behind me. I turned around to find one of the demons standing there, staring at me with an expression I couldn't quite read.
"What do you want?" I asked, my voice trembling with fear.
The demon stepped forward, its eyes burning with a strange intensity. "I know you, human. You are the one who caused this suffering, the one who brought this darkness upon us all."
I stared at the demon, wondering how it knew me. "What do you mean? If you’re referring to my ancestor, King Gregory, then yes, I am."
The demon let out an eerie laugh. "Your ancestor, King Gregory, was a great warrior, a conqueror who brought death and destruction wherever he went. He wanted nothing more than to expand his kingdom and secure his place in history. And you are his descendant, the one who will pay the price for his sins."
My heart ached at the truth of the demon's words. I had always been aware of my family's history, the wars they had fought and the lives they had taken. But I never truly understood the gravity of their actions until now.
"But I didn't do that," I protested. "It was my ancestors who fought those wars, not me."
The demon just smiled, dark and sinister. "You are the blood of your ancestors, girl. You carry their legacy within you. And now, you must endure the punishment they brought upon us."
I stand still, mostly because I am the only human in this room filled with tortured demons. Before my first battle, I had never seen a demon before. I had heard stories and tales of their wrath and how they bring pain, but nothing compared to the sight of them moaning and screaming in agony. Surely, even demons have their limits. As the demon who led me here continued to talk, I couldn't help but observe the surrounding suffering.
"Of course," I began to say, my voice cracking with fear and nervousness. "This is just like my maiden battle."
The demon who led me here chuckled again. "Indeed, young one. A battlefield of pain and suffering, but nevertheless, a battlefield. You will witness the consequences of your family's actions. As for me, I'm leaving you here. You have a long time to spend here, so make the most of it."
And with that, he walked away, leaving me with the demons that might hurt me. Most of them, whose lives were meddled with in some way, look at me with hatred in their eyes. The last thing I wanted was to lose my virginity to a demon, but it seemed as though that was my fate. I turned around to find the same demon who had spoken to me earlier, looming over me. His eyes were as dark as the depths of hell, and his teeth glistened with malice.
"Well," he began, his voice a low growl. "It looks like we have a royal."
I tried to back away, but there was nowhere to go. The demon reached out and grabbed me roughly, pulling me close. His touch was like ice, freezing my blood and making my skin crawl. I knew what was coming, and I could feel my body shaking with fear.
"P-please," I stammered, trying to break free and avoid panic. "I’m just the youngest child in my family. You know, people think I’m too gentle and trusting. My own father believes I should be more brave.”
The demon chuckled, a sound that made my spine tingle with dread. "Gentle and trusting? Let's see how that plays out in a moment." He leaned in closer to me, his breath hot and foul against my face. "But I'll tell you what, girl. You're braver than you think. You just don't know it yet.”
His words sent a chill through me, but I couldn't deny the strange sense of intrigue they sparked within. Could this demon, this monster from the depths of the underworld, truly read my thoughts and feelings?
The demon suddenly shoved me to the ground, my head spinning from the force of his grip. I cried out in pain, my eyes tearing up as I struggled to get up. But the demon's hand shot out and grabbed the back of my neck, pulling me into a tight embrace. I could feel his heat and strength enveloping me, making it impossible for me to move. As I lay there, trapped in the demon's clutches, I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me. Despite the fear and pain coursing through my body, there was an odd familiarity to his touch that I couldn't quite place. His grip tightened, and I winced, preparing for the worst.
I yell out my own name, hoping the gods will hear: “My name is Maria von Preussen, the third princess of the Empire of Surin! Get your hands off me!”
