As Geo’s song faded, the crowd erupted in cheers. Larry clutched the balcony railing, still in that long ago attic apartment he’d once shared with Doug, remembering the boy he once loved. Who am I kidding? I still do.
He felt someone lean against him, then Crystal tugged at his shirt sleeve. “Dad! Dad!”
“What?” It felt as if he were waking from a wonderful dream, resurfacing from memories he’d rather lose himself in. Blinking as the lights came up in the Coliseum, he turned in a daze and stared at his daughter. “Hey. Huh? What is it, hon?”
“Second encore’s coming up,” she informed him. “You said we had to head backstage now if—”
