#Chapter 25

1293 Words

Nova I walked into the house earlier than I had in a while at 9pm. But the girls still should have been in bed. Not jumping on the couch that was already on its last leg while Susie encouraged them to jump higher. I slammed the front door behind me a little louder than I needed to in response to the sight. I was immensely grateful to my sister for taking care of the girls while I worked, but she had always been more of a free-spirit than me. I worried that her fun nature wasn’t providing the girls with the structure they needed – especially while they weren’t in school. Then again, maybe that was my fault. After Susie and I were left orphaned, I took it upon myself to take care of her, hoping that if I worked hard enough, she wouldn’t have to bear the brunt of growing up too fast.
