The little boy’s name was Benji, we learned. He was two years older than the girls.
The four children sat with their parents in the principal’s office, and it felt painfully stark to see that Benji was the only one with two parents.
“So what exactly happened?” Benji’s dad asked once we were all settled.
“Before we get into that,” Principal Ferguson replied, “I want to remind everyone here of Side-by-Side’s mission. We know that out in the real world, the division between werewolves and humans is stark, and we’re hoping that if we can forge inter-species bonds with children at young ages, that that will translate to more tolerant adults who will pave the way for a more united pack.”
“Packs are made up of werewolves only,” Dominic commented, locking eyes with Principal Ferguson.
