When I had agreed to Lila having a sleep over with Emma and Aria, me watching the three girls while my boss and my sister went on a date wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. I wasn’t sure why Dominic wanted to test new samples of his, my, and Emma’s hair for DNA matches without telling Susie, but it seemed strange to go on a date with someone he clearly didn’t trust to some degree.
Or maybe I was just being jealous.
I took a play from Dominic’s book and walked around the front yard of the Alpha House estate with Lila while he did the same in the backyard with Aria. Susie hesitated when I asked her to watch her own daughter during that time as if she were about to complain, but then she said, “Of course, it’ll be good to get some time with Emma before Dom and I go on our date.”
