Morticia's POV. It was my engagement party. You know, an event that's supposed to make the bride feel happy and loved by everyone else, but I didn't feel like that. I felt very far from it. I would taken the nerve tea the maid had brought for me the previous day before this event because I could feel my nerves wrecking. My cheeks hurt the most from putting up a smile for everyone. A fake smile. "If you are uncomfortable, you can take an excuse," Jacob tells me as we go up the stairs leading to the platform where all fuckery would happen. "It's alright, the dress isn't too tight." The dress was killing me and I could hardly breathe, but of course, I wouldn't tell him that. I had to be the perfect bride for everyone's eyes. "Okay then." We continued going up until we reached to stand behind Alpha Garrett who spoke to the guests. "Welcome to the Engagement Party of my son, Beta Jacob, and his fiancée, Morticia!" Alpha Garrett announces and the whole crowd cheers for us while my stomach churns. This was it. This was it, maybe not yet as there's still a wedding to go by, but this was the whole pack marking me as Jacob's wife. I can't be a free woman anymore. I can't see the palace guard... I really can't see Jake in front of the people. Why did this happen to me? What's so special about me is that I had to be the one married to Jacob. Why didn't he make sure he was supposed to marry Brianna? Why oh why is he ruining both our lives?! All the thoughts made my eyes water but I wouldn't cry before thousands of people now would I? After Alpha Garrett finishes saying whatever that I didn't quite get, he makes space for Beta Jacob to speak; "Good evening, everyone. Thank you all for being here to celebrate this special occasion. Your presence means a lot to us and our families, and it wouldn’t be the same without you. I want to take a moment to thank my parents and Morticia's parents for their unwavering support and love. Their guidance has brought us to this moment, and I’m deeply grateful for everything they’ve done." "[Fiancée’s name], today marks the beginning of a journey that we will take together. I look forward to learning more about you as we take this next step in life. I trust that together, we will build something meaningful and strong." "To everyone here tonight, thank you for your warm wishes and blessings. Your love and support are what make moments like these so memorable and special." "As we embark on this new chapter, I am hopeful for what the future holds for both of us and our families. Please enjoy the evening, and thank you once again for being part of this celebration." As I hear Jacob speak, I know he means not a word that escaped his mouth. He said the words so perfectly and emotionlessly because he didn't want this. We didn't want this, but we just had to say what the people wanted to her. I tried searching for my parents or Brianna in the dim ballroom, but I couldn't see them yet I knew they were present there. We finally climbed down the uplifted platform when the music started playing. It was time to drink, eat, and dance and everyone was doing just that. I didn't have any friends, I'm rather pitiful I know, so I went on a hunt to search for my family. I kind of missed them, even though I was sure as hell they didn't miss me. "Morticia!" I whipped my head at the sound of my sister, Brianna's voice. She was dressed to seduce in a fiery red gown that wrapped around her body like a second skin, bringing out all her perfect curves. A part of my mind couldn't help but notify me that she had come here for Jacob and not the engagement. She had dressed so seductively for him, she even did makeup and that's a first since I've never seen Brianna on makeup. "Brianna." I put up a small forced smile. "It's so good to see you! It's been months now, hasn't it?" She squealed out as though she was excited while I knew she harbored dangerous thoughts in her mind for my person. "Yeah, I guess so. How are mama and papa?" I ask. "Oh, they're good. They are speaking with Alpha Garrett and his wife. You'll see them soon. You look gorgeous in your green dress." Brianna compliments and I know she doesn't mean it. She's just upholding the sisterly duties. "Anyway, where's Jacob?" I noticed that she referred to him by his first name without the title or rather referred to him as my fiancé. But am I surprised though, I mean, I caught them kissing. I needless sat more. "He should be around, somewhere," I shrug, "We parted ways after we came down from the platform." Brianna nodded, raking her eyes around the ballroom in search of someone else's fiancé. It doesn't hurt me though or make me jealous. Instead, I do want her to steal him if possible so I could be with Jake. As soon as the thought came, it cleared as fast. "I'm going to meet some others. Are you okay by yourself?" Oh please! Don't act like the lovely sister you're not! I said in my mind. "Yeah, sure. Go find other people, I'll just wait for Mama and Papa." Brianna nods and leaves, walking to the other side where Jake might be. Maybe she finally found him after all. It didn't take much time after Brianna left then my parents came to stand before me. "Morticia darling!" Mother all but squeals and pulls me into a hug that would've been warm if she wasn't the way she is right now. "How have you been, baby?" I keep on my small smile, "Mother. I've been good." "Of course you have! Look at you, you are practically glowing!" I smile, of course, that's what both she and Papa wanted. Where I would go and bring them happiness by power and wealth, not minding if I was happy or not.
