As mindless as the creature was, its skill in the hunt and love for blood projected an illusion of intelligence. Soon, the prey it depended on grew scarce. In desperation, our vampire trespassed territorial boundaries in search of blood.
It found prey, and it needed blood. The chase dragged on longer than it should have, and what would've granted the monster life lead it to its end. A witch stole away her friend before our vampire could catch it, and the hunter became the hunted.
Escape would've been easy for the beast without starvation, but the witch lead it to this place of less people and favorable conditions. Upon discovering the predator's unusual weakness and lack of real, dangerous intelligence, the witch caught up to it now that caution was unnecessary.
There was no fight, and there was no struggle. Both chases took so long that even if the witch let it go, the sunrise was too near for it to reach safety in time. The witch could've saved it, but she wasn't about to risk further death to her friends. The witch wasn't a cruel person either, so in the vampire's last moments, the witch used her magic to revive feeling where the vampire naturally couldn't anymore and helped him fall asleep one last time.
Her magic revealed some of the creature's life, and she recognized a long lost friend before he was forcefully turned into the same species of his assailant. He woke up, and after years of reluctant savagery and deep regret, he finally woke up as himself in the arms of his friend.
"You once told me that crying isn't evil." He said. The witch smiled down at him.
"I'll miss you." She replied. "It's because I tried to keep you for myself that this happened to you."
"You... really love me now, don't you? You knew it was me, and even though you could've kept me alive tonight, you're letting me go." He had no trouble breathing, but hunger pinned him down despite no signs of pain. The clouds above ignited. "It's not your fault. You are the witch I knew before, and I'll miss you too." He smiled back, and neither of them felt the sun cleanse him from the face of the Earth.
