The argument between Vonnie and me continued to escalate. I had only wanted to shop peacefully, but she wouldn't let me pass. Vonnie seemed even more furious after hearing my last comment. Perhaps something I said didn't match reality, but I only spoke based on what I knew from the past.
"Your words are ridiculous and show just how foolish you are, Elinor. Did you really think I was with Tom? Ha! No wonder you've been so easily deceived since school. You're still the same now," Vonnie said, placing her hands on her hips, clearly intending to insult me until she was satisfied.
