“That must give you great satisfaction!” Julia said. “But thank goodness we are no longer at war.”
“No one is more grateful than I am,” the Duke replied. “The numbers of visitors coming to Scotland every year tell me that the people on both sides of the border are getting on well together.”
When they came within sight of the island, Julia said to him,
“You must come and put in your treasures while I take out those which belong to the Captain. You must impress those who are watching over the hidden treasure how important your contribution is and that you would be very upset if any of it was stolen or went missing during the night.”
“I will certainly give them my orders,” the Duke said with a smile. “I am quite certain, being Scots, that they will obey me.”
